What a piece of shiite. From what GonePlaid says the car couldn't have been older than less than three years!!!

It's actually a very common design in nearly all air cooled engines. Every vintage VW bug, Thing, Squareback Sedan, Micro Bus, not to mention every rear and mid engine Porsche made up through 1998. I'm pretty sure the Corvair used the same design as well.
But your right, it is a design that flirts with disaster. Rule of thumb for VW bug owners, if you start to get drowsy while driving, roll down the windows and turn the heater off. Crazy

Disco ball mirrors would probably add another pound. Silver metalfalke would be an option. Though metalflake paint would be a bit heavy, too.

I hear you can play it, kinda like the other 4.

Perspex mirrors? You can get chrome (ish) nitro rattle cans too, get a very flat finish and spray that on top? Silver metalflake interspaced with small random mirrors?

Very cool, I didn't know they made a bass version of the teardrop. Our singer has a blue 6 string that cost a small fortune, may I ask how much the bass was? I'm speculating too much if it's an ex Wyman bass

Seriously, 75% of the time that's what my B strings end up doing.

I have my new (to me) EB3 strung BEAD. There are a few songs I wanted to learn that include a low D and it offers a different feel from the 5er. And now I am experimenting with songs that would ordinarily be played on EADG transposing notes lower. There are a number of cases in which it works well. Anything written in D minor sounds better played that way - it makes it an even sadder key.

Can always play with another pre amp. There are options & yes, rip it all out is a valid one.
Though some people go like the standard active tone, others hmmm... not.

I might be one of those. Or I might not. Perhaps it was @kat888 's insistence that the p/u and preamp had all the power of wet tissue paper that made me work through options for replacement. So, I put it away while I was looking at options. I pulled it out again recently and am much happier with the tone. Maybe absence makes the heart grow fonder?

So my advice is play it with an open mind.
