Some of the other threads I've looked at tend to be very dry and sometimes hostile("hit search" for example).I like it here that we talk basses, preferably TBirds, amps and other gear, diet, transportation, cool places(I'll never see), gigs and their up/down sides and all kinds of other stuff that seems to strike a chord with a lotta the folks on here. A camaraderie of sorts. If I just wanted cold, hard, factual information, I'd go to Guitar Cen......never mind.We tend to address peoples' questions on the fly as opposed to sending them on a lengthy, difficult, frustrating, and (usually) fruitless search. The conversation rolls around to dern near every topic under the sun. By the time we get back to a familiar topic, I don't think most of us mind discussing it again (I know I don't). "Upon Request" is the only way to fly around here

The only experience I've had with GC is ordering my VP from the Syracuse store and picking it up on this side of the continent. The dudes at the store (where I picked it up) were pleasant and helpful, it was well packed and they let me check it out thoroughly before I took it.
Must be a lot of fun mixed in with a lot of boredom. I never got to go on tour, just the occasional dash up to Liverpool or Newcastle. Mind you a tour of the UK hardly compares with one in the States

I know, but I have to stand up for the Austin area GCs. They tend to be staffed with real musicians who know their stuff. Unfortunately, most of the purely local places have had limited stock, or catered to beginner or wealthy players. There are a couple of exceptions, and I frequent those as well, but they've just never had the range of products. A couple have started trying over the past ten years, but they were a bit late.
Before GC came to town, Mars Music was the big dog. They were vilified for their salespeople elsewhere, but again, in Austin they had working musicians. I never once had a bad experience there, or at GC here.
The best part? They freely admit when they don't know, and say so, and try to find someone who does.
