Thunderbird Club

They were from Kalamazoo (just down the road a piece). They survived the mid-80s through the early '90s. They got to be a pretty big deal. Toured U.S. pretty thoroughly, but made it across the pond twice that I'm aware of. I've been surprised a few times by folks from all around, who are familiar with 'em.
Sorry, I led quite an insular life back then, it tended to be what I saw unless it was on the John Peel radio show when I got the chance to listen to it. After 78 I completely dropped off the face of the earth music wise when I joined the navy, as you do :roflmao:

LOL, NO!!! :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I played it a couple of weeks ago and thought it sounded really different from TB's I'd played and was glad to see that you found it unique too :thumbsup:
Those are their own thing. Not better or worse, just different. I have Gibsons, but also a bolt-on Epi that gets out for exercise on occasion. Mine has a really big neck, which I like and which is different. The sound is just different, too. My first 'Bird ever was a bolt-on. My son still has it. I missed it, and had to have another one. I don't think you can go wrong with those as long as you expect them to be different. Strung with Black Beauties or HiBeams, they are great sounding bass guitars.

How can you tell which circuitry? Is it a silver face / black face thing?
Sort of, but not that easy. 7ender blonde piggyback Bassman's (up to mid '63)were 6G6-B, the black 63's were still that circuitry, pre CBS. After CBS took over('65)they changed the circuitry. So. If it's original blonde Tolex, yer good. If it's black Tolex, ya hafta know the year it was made. On the blondes, AFAIK, grill cloth cover doesn't matter, whether tweed or oxblood. Wikipedia has a more detailed breakdown under 7ender Bassman:)

Yeah, it’s sad. We have a gig booked in Redding. Not even sure if it’s still there
Some of it might be. Seattle isn't on fire, just blanketed with smoke from just about everywhere else. If you get cancelled in Redding, head north after Portland or before or whenever. Worst case, you could probably find a way to at least pay for gas money by playing somewhere. And, if it happened like that, I might actually be able to show up! That would be a bonus (for me) and maybe not such a bonus for the band (one less exotic Seattle hippy groupie in the place).

Playing the complete opposite of the venue we played last night

This picture makes it look much nicer than it is. Tour manager said “it beats a night off,” but I’m not so sure. Then again, I’ve had all kinds of fun in dumps like this :)
It is a step up from some places. I have never played behind chicken wire, but pretty close on occasion.

Just been looking at the InciWeb the Incident Information System site, that lot looks terrible!
I really wasn't kidding about no visibility. You can't see more than about a block and a half. Normally, I don't like traveling for work, but I'll be on the road to New Mexico tomorrow and Saturday. I'm looking forward to breathing air that has some problem other than thick wood smoke.
