Thunderbird Club

My daughter liked Deadmau5 when she was 16. Now it's a quaint memory, almost makes her a little misty.

Lol. I think it's cute of her.

Funny, find a dead mouse here, nobody gets misty. Usually, we get the broom and dustpan instead.

Sure those werent 45s? 33 1/3 was for LPs.

Heh, you are right! Still, they were hot.

Not even this type? I’m kind of surprised TBH. Here in Michigan everyone has one of these for courtesy to others and for our own good.

Letting those were coming up on know we’re coming through accompanies with an, “On your right!”

Lots of roadies use that type of bell...they just are aftermarket items...no shop is going to put a Parlee or Peggoretti on the showroom floor that way though!

I’m still a “On your left!” kinda guy :)

Lucky. 'Round here, cyclists firmly believe they are entitled to run you over, back up to make sure they got you, run you over again on their way out and toss some profanity back at you for being anywhere within 500 feet of a paved surface. Bells? Horns? Are you kidding me?

In many cases, packs of angry cyclists have been known to take on semis, busses and cargo ships for having the audacity to be burning fossil fuels or carrying passengers/cargo inside rather than exposed to the weather.

This post may be seen as mildly facetious. :D

Another thing I noticed about the TBird ... The neck seems to move a lot more than on my other basses. Probably because its so thin? When I changed strings from LaBella's to the BB's it was buzzing to the point of unplayable. I had to spend some time with the truss rod to get back to the way I like it (low action). There's a sweet spot where the neck is right, but it took some time to find it. It seems to move a lot with just a small turn of the nut - much more movement than my PBass for example.
I had not noticed, but that is because I am mostly CroMagnon and wouldn't notice. I tend to like a higher action than what seems to be the majority. Which means that the neck has plenty of room before much happens.

My own string journey continues...

Fortunately, the great flats experiment is done. I discovered that flats do wear out and that I don't like the sound and that cobalts are tough on my fingers.

I have also discovered that loving a string on one bass doesn't mean that I will like it on all basses. And that I can like more than one string on a bass. I have also learned that I really like NYXLs on many of my basses, including Thunderbirds. But I also like Black Beauties on Thunderbirds. The Midtown sounds best with Fat Beams. I really like Fat Beams, but only on that bass.

Now that I think about it, I think NYXLs may be my go to string. I haven't found any bass on which I don't like them.

And, to my ear, NYXLs are better and longer lasting than the regular XLs.

YMMV.

All this to say. Fine if you like flats, but I am finished with them and hated the cobalts.
So the plan today is for Black Beauties to finally go on the ‘15 while I watch the Dodgers (hopefully) clinch against the Braves. They were $20 on Amazon. Got them some weeks ago, but haven’t had time to haul out the tools, take over the kitchen table and take my time to do it right. I’ll give them some weeks before deciding if they’re for me and on that bass. Never tried ‘em before.

They are grippy at first, but that abates quickly.

Or disturbingly accurate.:smug:

For those unaware, this weekend is Thanksgiving in Canada. So happy Thanksgiving to all.

History:
In 1977, when metric was fully implemented in Canada, Thanksgiving was moved from the November date used by Americans to October to fit into the new metric Calendar. Along with moving Thanksgiving, Christmas was moved to be 4 metric weeks (3 US weeks) after Thanksgiving, so soon enough we will be wishing you a Merry Christmas.
MY PARENTS LIED TO ME ABOUT CHRISTMAS

Yeah, a real money-saver. Instead of changing strings when your bass goes out of tune, you just use those tuners to adjust tuning. What's more, you can even use them to change to alternate tunings.
