Thunderbird Club

That is cool. Like you I believe the authenticity is suspect, especially considering the Gibson TRC on the Epiphone `bird. Something similar could probably be accomplished with wrapping (as can be done with cars). And I am usually wearing my leopard underwear - except on laundry days when I am wearing spiderman underwear.
IDK if I'da tole that one:smug:

I tend to ignore what the lyrics are and just hear the groove, so in the past I never paid attention to the lyrics in My Sharona.
But then last year I wanted to show my teenage daughter how to play the bass line and I looked up the lyrics...
Wow!:jawdrop: I looked it up(never paid attention b4). Howinahell'd they get away with that? I guess it helps to sorta mumble.:cautious: I've mentioned songs I like the 'sound' of to my family and been asked if I heard what they're saying on the record. Nope, just the groove, arrangement, voicings, etc. Proving, once again, that I don't listen to what people say as much as how it's said.:bag:

And then there’s Stray Cat Blues by the Stones. I remember playing and singing it when I was a teenager, but now....yikes!

Unless I'm looking at different lyrics I don't see the issue. Mostly about some guy that likes younger girls (doesn't say under age girls) so looks innocent enough to me.
The lyrics to Brown Sugar on the other hand shocked the heck out of me, I don't know how the Stones get away with still playing that song.

Couple weeks ago I posted about finding an aluminum truss rod cover to match the aluminum pick guard on my Bird. Decided to make one, and here it is. Turned out pretty decent.

Excellent! So did you end up using a Gibson logo sticker on the truss cover? If not, you did an amazing job of cutting out the script by hand. Either way, well done sir!

I bought a Gibson water slide decal. Right now its just the decal on raw aluminum. I'm debating spraying a clear coat over it. I'm not sure about how well the clear coat will stick to aluminum. Since the truss rod cover is behind the strings the decal won't get touched often so it will probably survive a long time without being coated. That said, I'd feel better if it were coated.

I love to tinker with my basses and modify them to make them my own if you know what I mean. Like the Bird I've been posting about ... Hipshot bridge, aluminum pick guard, DIY aluminum truss rod cover. Now I'm considering the possibility of having it refinished in another color. I've always loved green and black on a bass!

I'm not concerned about decreasing the resale value someday in the future - this bass is to PLAY not an investment to sell someday.

Some questions maybe some of you can help with:
- How expensive is a refinish?
- Any recommendations for someone that will do it right?
- Poly or Nitro?
- Any downside to refinishing that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks.

Came across this in a thread about inexpensive J basses. Had to do a double take; for a second there I thought that was Veronica with an SX bass. She really needs to be playing a Bird.

It's cool and generic - basically a Fender J clone w/o the big F on the bridge cover and who cares really? A J-style clone that sounds good - looks like a J and completes the gestalt. Beats electric tape over the hs name.
