Thunderbird Club

Shortly after I moved to Austin, we had a hail storm that busted thousands of front and rear windscreens, and caused every car caught out in it to need bodywork and paint. Older cars were totaled. My 1983 Honda Interceptor 750 (the original!) looked unscathed. It was built from much heavier steel and plastic than cars in the early 1990s. Six to ten inches of hail everywhere, looked like winter. Fifteen minutes later everything was under several inches of water (it was, after all, about 100F). Fifteen minutes later there were only pools of water here and there. And busted cars.

I rode that bike through golf ball sized hail in Atlanta once, trapped in nearly bumper to bumper high speed traffic on I285. Not my favorite ride.

I also drove my Miata through a hailstorm. I got the top up just in time on an overpass. I hunched down, and some of the hail was deflecting the soft top 8-10" to caress my head and back. I finally ended up on a large church's front porch until the storm passed. When I left I made sure the porch was clean (it was, the car had no leaks).
Miatas are pretty cool. I had an 89 Eunos Roadster which felt like riding a small (500cc) bike. 32 miles to the gallon..
what year was yours?

I didn’t even read over that... I’ve been trying to spend a little less time here.... eats up so much of my day not constantly but a little bit all day. lol. Been seeking some answers which can be better explored with the whole thread dedicated to the idea.
So this is where I’m picking up after being out of pocket for awhile. Had to attend a service for my beloved aunt who passed at 90. She lived a long and happy life. Spending tonight in a crappy hotel due to work and seeing way too many pages to browse through. Doesn’t anyone around here work?

2001. gave it to my godson who races cars after the ragtop disintegrated and some other problems developed that I didn't have the time to mess with. I'd originally driven a friend's that was the first or second model year they came out; the 2001 felt positively roomy (it wasn't) in comparison.
I really miss that car.

Huh? You don't get paid to play on the internet? You need a new job.

Haha! I wasn't even aware that they had made a short scale TB until I read your book! It's definitely an odd one, and yeah, I'm nowhere close to Thunderbird Yahtzee. I was looking at a '64 TB II on Austin Vintage's site, but they sold it mere days before I could make it out there. Eh, even though it was a steal at $4K, it was still way outside of my price range.

And good advice from you guys regarding BEAD tuning. I like the in-your-face obnoxious gold BEAD idea the most. I was surprised to find that I actually liked the 2015 'Bird tone more than my 2018 (which I just sold). I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, as I owned a 2013 EB bass that I loved a lot and stupidly sold.

Any advice from you guys regarding string choice for BEAD?
My 2 BEAD basses also have a "G":smug: EDIT: 1024181809-00 (1).jpg

We are in a storm season now. No rain today but 60% humidity atm (nearly 11am) and we are about 40 kms from the coast, 50km if driving.
Another storm due this afternoon.

But nothing like mud slides and the like. You can keep that to yourselves.

The recent hail storms created enough havoc. I’ve never seen hail punch holes through house windows and car front & rear windscreens before.
Yikes!

Just for clarification, the game I linked is not Aussie Rules. No, it doesn’t have many rules . It is the only “football” code I know of without an offside rule and some of us (not me of course) call it “fumble ball”.
Rugby League (with Rugby) tradionally dominate in Qld & NSW, Aussie Rules the rest of the country. Population wise it’s about equal in numbers. (Someone once put a map out of Australia with a mason - Dixie (?) line of the different games dominated areas.)
Aussie Rules is set to take over within the next 20 years I think.

BTW in AFL I ‘support’ the Sydney Swans who wear a stylised white jersey with a Red Vee. lol

Edit: Sticks Provan - a great St George player, captain and coach

Yeah, I was aware of that but I've wondered about Aussie Rules Rugby since I saw a(game?, match?,battle?)on ESPN.

3 days into a 12 day stretch of 10 hour days - ugh, inventory at Seattle Lighting.

I missed a SS TB a few years ago. Still kicking myself.:banghead:

Yeah, the trifecta was Fixer/Christine/Kat. Those three could keep any thread full of fun new posts. Sadly, I just don't see any of them on here anymore. But carry on we must!
So.... everybody, Post a picture of your favorite bird rockin bassist (pro or amateur) in action!
My favorite...

You asked for it!

If it's any consolation, I just discovered that the ShortBird had a twisted neck. Might have been solved by a fret level, but there were too many small issues that I really didn't want to bother with in a fairly expensive bass. My guess is that the person that sold it to GC had their reasons for not taking it to Reverb or something similar. Kinda makes me rethink my frequent GC used shopping, though I have had moderate luck finding a score here and there.

I bought a bottle of their platinum label thinking it would be really good (I know nothing about scotch, but wanted to see what all the club hubbub is here). I wasn't impressed. I want a smooth creamy rich drink (neat or on the rocks) that doesn't excel in alcohol burn all the way down to my gut.

I can get that with Rum, Tequila, Vodka or Gin. I just haven't found a whisky, bourbon or scotch I like yet. I'm sure there's one out there, but I haven't found it.
There is time my friend. Scotch and bourbon (like tequila) can be an acquired taste. The fun is finding what you like.

First, look into the various regions that Scotch is made, each area produces different attributes. Find the one that's most appealing to you.
Around here, anything under $70 (CAD) can be smooth... until you try something over the $85 price range. In between is a crap shoot. IME

I wouldn't recommend on the rocks, it'll water it down too much. If the alcohol burn is too much, take a straw, put it in a little water, put your finger on top so it holds some water, and put that in the scotch. Whisky rocks are great to keep the drink cool.

Higher alcohol content does not always mean you will get that burn, so don't be afraid to try something 45%+.

Creamy is not an adjective I have ever thought of with a scotch, you might want to try Bailey's :roflmao:, but doesn't mean it's not out there.

And remember.... it's not cheap!
Exactly. Just a splash to “open it up.” No ice. Ever.
