HEY! Waddaya doin'? It said "No user serviceable parts, refer to qualified tec....... Oh, right.

well it turns out no qualifications needed here....I was messing around with this beast (plugged into one of my 2 X 10 boxes) and noticed the dreaded waterfall sound when it shook hard due to volume or when I plugged or unplugged the input so I thought "oh sh1t here we go, this must be the reason..." only to find this when I took the bottom plate off..

kinda of an important screw since it chassis grounds some of the controls...
talk about lucking out!!

I never liked 10"s. I lugged a 4x10" around with a 1 15" for years and it never sounded better than the 2x12 (fender Bassman closed back cab) and the JBL 18" it replaced. I was "upgrading..."

Now I have 3 x12" (1, 1x12" & 1 2x12") and it works really well for me. Covers a lot ground and small enough to move easily.

I inadvertently break a lot of TB, GP rules:
1. No 10" speakers.
2. Mis-matched cab colors
3. Cabs are also from different manufacturers.
4. Thunderbird with no neckdive
5. Thunderbird weighs about 8lbs 10oz, lighter than either of FSO's I own
6. No flats. Ever.

Now you've got me started .... A lot of people go on about fretboard wood. For me it's entirely a matter of æsthetics and how it feels to play. It would make more sense to talk about the tone of fretwire, as in the majority of cases, that is one endpoint of a bass string.

It's all about the pickups and strings.

Fools, all of you. Tone is in the strap. Only natural leather from an animal with sharp teeth gives you that real growling tone.

And you have to kill it yourself with a bow and arrow, or better yet in knife to fang-or-horn combat.

I have a Traynor 1510. No 7enders. The ghetto pedalboard (Ikea shelf painted yellow). I like to think that out in Gen Pop a few heads explode every time I start playing.

Oh, mon frere. How wrong you are. My Thunderbird positively roars through my MONO Doolittle strap (vegan). Maybe that's because mine is left-handed, though.

Very well said good sir. I'll admit, my first was a bolt on, but when i saw the Epi neck thru at Sam Ash not long after, it was just calling me, so i traded the bolt on for the neck thru. But the bolt on was rock solid, and i was proud to get started on that Bird.

Hmm. Where does my-and Chucky's-set neck NR fit into this?

Most of my basses are Ebony, rosewood or Pao Ferro, but really I just prefer the look/feel of dark fingerboards that aren’t too heavily lacquered. That said, I’ve had some amazing basses with maple boards. By now I guess I’ve played too many basses to say anything is ‘better’ than anything else

Most of my basses are Ebony, rosewood or Pao Ferro, but really I just prefer the look/feel of dark fingerboards that aren’t too heavily lacquered. My talent/skill is the limiting factor. Wood plays no part in my playing. Ahem.

Like I said elsewhere, everything interacts wit everything else. I was ignoring the amp side of the equation, but amp and cab figure in heavily as well.

Unless they’re made by ampeg, then it doesn’t matter. Their specs are meaningless Lolololololol.
