Thunderbird Club

Pumped after rehearsal today. Got so much done as a three piece -- not missing the former singer. This guitarist we found on the bloody internet is a monster and it was only the second proper rehearsal with her. Fingers crossed we have a new singer in a couple of days time.

Played through a Trace Elliot 215 (1524T 400W) today. So much better than the Hartke 410 I've been using up until now.

Excellent news!

The poor zoom recorder isn't coping too well with the assault. Try this for size.

I really like the direction this is going!

Not sure what your vocal plans are for the future but if you're open to suggestion, I'd challenge you to minimize the vocal focus in the music. Dare to be different, avoid the standard new band trap of having the band be the background music for the singer. Flip it, have the singer be background vocal to the band.

The post modern psychedelic prog creamy thick acid swirl sound you guys have really lends itself well to a more monotone laid back deep throated female singer. Kinda in this vein, but you guys could take it a step further...

Just a thought.

Hey, sounds cool!

Zoom recorder and ear buds plugged into a phone - hi fi nirvana! It sounds good. I agree with others who say you don't need vocals all that much.

The little bit of feedback howl from the guitar is a good touch.

It's a beautiful feeling - savor the moment and do all you can to encourage it to continue. If you feel that way there's a good chance the others feel that way also.
The drummer from my cover band has been filling in at my Tuesday night jazz combo classes and that brought the whole group up to another level. We tried a new tune (Calling Miss Khadijah) and the instructor said the rhythm section sounded better in the second run through than the previous one did after 3 months.

Love it when it clicks!

I disagree - I can hear the space for lyrics to go in.

Now content of the lyrics is another matter. I could see cookie monster vocals fitting or bubblegum pop. Or even bubblegum pop done in cookie monster vocals.

I disagree with her pronunciation of Worcestershire but otherwise it works...

Pop lyrics work too

Funny you should say that .... seeing as I wrote a total of 27 words for that particular song (prompting a complaint there were not enough lyrics ... to which my response was 'work it a bit').

My general approach is the voice is another instrument. Sometimes you need more, sometimes you need less. There are some wordier songs, but I'm not afraid to let the vocal take a break.

There are only a couple of really slow songs, they've just happened to come out best on the Zoom recording or in the vocal performance.

The studio gear doesn't stand a chance.....

The good thing about the Trace cab is it didn't sound distressed at any point. Ester was running a Hiwatt T40 (not impressed -- too clean) at half power into an Orange 412.

[Update:] Asked guitarist whether she preferred the 215 or the 410 and she said 'I like your Ampeg cabinet'. Good lass.
