I have Cobalt flats on my '15 and although they sound good I'm not completely sold that they are the right strings for this bass. It's almost like the pups and controls are immensely capable of covering a huge tonal range but the Cobalt flats are limiting them. I'm thinking for this bass I may need to find the most open airy transparent string made and then shape the tone more with the controls than the string selection (if that makes any sense). Not sure what string that would be, maybe some TI Jazz Rounds or Alembic Ellipticals?Black Beauties are on the 2001 are beginning to sound a bit tired. I forgot they wear out. It proves that bass is getting played a lot. It's going to get Cobalt flats this time around. I'm pretty sure the '15 has Bass Burners on it, but I don't remember now. They sound good, whatever they are. So much for the scientific method.

I haven't even considered a metal pick for bass. I found exactly one stainless pick I liked for guitar; it was the same shape as the rounded triangle Dunlops, and fairly thin, It worked great; didn't seem to wear the strings significantly faster, and still had a good meaty sound, not just highs like I initially feared. I bought a dozen, gave a few to teens really getting into guitar, and slowly lost the rest. And of course could never find them again.
I'll tell you in 12 weeks...I am so disillusioned now. I thought you must look like this

I wish I'd riffed on it as soon as I posted!Of course. But the mental imagery was GREAT.
I don't know those strings, but the thought makes a lot of sense to me.I have Cobalt flats on my '15 and although they sound good I'm not completely sold that they are the right strings for this bass. I will have to look. I don't remember.Darker blue at the bridge and orange at the headstock? Those are Bass Burners.
I can get on board with that. I was a Mets fan living in NYC. Now, I have been downgraded to a Mariners fan.Swear to Dog, I didn't get the connection until I started writing the post. Lets Go, Mets!
Walruses are actually quite friendly and social. That reminds me! My emergency back up picks are the light blue one Walrus Audio sends in a tin with their power supply (and possibly other things). Just because they're there. Never look a gift walrus in the mouth. For numerous reasons, from fish breath to getting your head bit.
