Thunderbird Club

Gibson question:
I picked up my 67 EBO the other day and realized how sketchy the tuners are. Anybody know of a direct replacement that looks close?

Pic? Gotoh makes many classic styles and are good quality - worth checking to see if they have something to match. Kluson's were on many basses then - not sure what was on an EB.

Speaking of my Saundersbird... I finally got around to drilling 1" holes under the pg for as much lightening as I could. I could remove more of the spaces between but it wouldn't amount to that much more (or I should say less). Doing this removed 4oz. The bass now weighs 9lbs/8oz. Being closer to 9lbs than 10 lbs was worth it - if anything a psychological (placebo) advantage... :)

Peggy, Doris Day, Tim Conway... rough week in entertainment.
I do morn celebrities ,but for the ones I’m pretty sure ended up having a good life and successful career I don’t get sad. They’ve lived brighter and fuller than I ever will, I reckon.
Well, if no one else is going to get this party started.......................

Strange bedfellows!
The absolute last thing I ever want to be is the "headliner" who goes on last. Make me the warmup act every time and I'm happy. Off stage and completely out of there by 10:30 or 11:00 at the latest! I schlep a big amp on plenty of occasions, but I usually end up with the upright, which means two trips anyway. Getting set up on stage is a couple minutes - plug in the amp, plug in the board, turn on the wireless, turn on the amp, make noise. Getting off stage is the reverse and takes the same minimal amount of time. Everything gets checked beforehand. So far, the only gear related failure has been when a sealed water bottle fell and hit the amp's switch (on the back). It took me some serous head scratching to figure out that there was nothing at all wrong - just an amp that had been turned off. That won't happen again.
So when you start playing out with your drum kit will it be easier?
My contribution to Thunderbird Thursday. This Bird landed at my house today. Very nice bass so far. It only took about 20 minutes to remove the salami and replace it with my idea of an acceptable pickguard (I had to play it first before removing the tort). And for those of you that mentioned that you don't really need another bass......I don't either but that has never stopped me from buying one. ;)

How do the EMGs sound?

Wow - looks good with just the holes!

Playing my `bird tonight, I decided that the Roto 66s are done. The strings now have that dead rubber band sound. I had been thinking for the last few weeks that the strings just weren't what they were, but tonight I made the decision. Not bad though, I think they lasted me about 3 months, which is typical for me. But now I have to decide what goes on next.

I think my great steel string experiment is done. I appreciate why people like steel. Now I need to decide what happens next. Here are my thoughts, comments welcome:

Nickel Rotos.
Pure Blues,
Nickel Lowriders,
NYXLs, or
LaBella White or Copper White tapes.
