score!...
I asked the guy that did the belly cut (which wasn't cheap) on mine about doing the exact same thing..he said it would get pretty expensive and that because of the massive neck and headstock the neck dive would likely become worse...note the 68 headstock vs the BaCH..

could you please post the link to that thread you mentioned? be interesting to read..

Here's the thread over on LBO: My Bachbird Project.... FINALLY!!!

Is the headstock ion the Bach version really that much more massive? Damn, I knew the originals were big, didn't realize they were dwarfed by the Bach version.

thanks...

that last pic I sent is not really fair cause the distance from the lens is not exact and it needs to be..
I wouldn't say dwarf but definitely bigger and feels thicker and heavier..

no mistake with the body, at least 1/4" diff down at the bottom by the controls..

Ah, that makes more sense. 1/4" is substantial, but the thickness I suppose doesn't bother me that much other than vintage correctness, so maybe it'll get shaved down one day and maybe it won't. I took out the tape measure and compared it to this picture (below), and everything lines up pretty closely on the BaCH. I will likely need to get a different pickguard as the current one sits a little high on the body so it's closer to the edges than a Gibson, and my OCD is kicking in on that.

@TBird1958 what did you use to black out the headstock on the Cherry one you had? I'd like to do the same before it gets a full refin down the line.

Catch up....

I hope you're strong, the call of the Siren Thunderbird is unrelenting. :)

Up here the VPs run about $700USD at Sweetwater and if you're real lucky you can grab an occasional blowout deal on a NOS 2018 Gibson Thunderbird or demo 2019 Gibson Thunderbird for about $1000USD. At a spread of $300USD I'd take the the VP. But if the spread ever dropped down to $150USD or below I'd go for the Gibby.

Edit: not positive, but I don't think that the Eppi comes with a HDSC at that price but the Gibby does. I suspect a factory HDSC would run in the neighborhood of $150, which brings the price spread down to my Gibby trigger point. Interesting dilemma, exactly what strategic product pricing is supposed to create. Maybe Gibson is finally getting their marketing act together. Price top tier low overhead model the same as NOS and new top tier Demo USA built models.

Don't need to be strong, as there is 100% no GAS. If I did have space and cash and GAS, I would definitely be looking out for a secondhand Gibson, but really, the Orville scratches that itch. It is stupidly light and balances perfectly with lightweight tuners.

I like the design of that case - if that's what it costs, so be it.

I have two of those cases, one converted to NR layout -- they are heavy (and about double the price here).

That sucks that they cost double - I got one with a Goth I bought for parts and it seem pretty protective and the bass is a tight fit. Most cases are heavy which is why I mostly use gig-bags. For me, cases are best for storage and shipping.
