You know, I don't really want to pick at it. I put on a thumbrest, but I use it, it's part of my bass playing. Same with moving the strap button, I do that to all my instruments.Roger, I *think* you want to tinker with it, honestly though. anything you do that takes it away from stock will indeed devalue it. On the hand, a fun second bass as a project scratches the itch to tinker, you can do it at your leisure.
There you go trying to be peacemaker... Pick a lane!

I have a project going that is a little T-birdish. I am curious about the guts of the vairious T-Bird pickups through the years from the 60's through the TB Plus and Probucker 760. Details such as magnet material and shape, windings, and coil configuration all interest me. Please post links to any threads/posts here or outside resources.
Some good threads I've found so far:

Gibson Thunderbird Pickups?
Interested in your findings with the strings. Always wondered about the Power Bass strings. I just ordered some GHS Progressives (w/Alloy 52) in an atempt to add a little snap to my 64 Embassy. I like TI Superalloys on my 64 T-bird and wanted to go in that direction. Had two questions about options with alloy 52 for Jason but strangely never heard back on either email. After a few days I gave up and bought the Progressives. I'm also going through a few strings for the VP. Everything sounds really good, but.....Probably not. Already have those on a bird. Maybe some TI Power bass or even Alembic Elipticals would be interesting.
I need to check out Jason's new site at Fretnation.
Not that I saw. BTW, I think most of us occasionally come up with an idea that seems like it might be worth doing and after some pondering think again. I, for one, won't do anything permanent to my 67 NR. The replacement PG can be taken off and the(cracked)original go back on. And I still have the tug bar.It got quiet. Was it something I said?...

The Elf is much smaller and lighter, but costs about the same as the BQ500. Is 130/200 continuous class D watts enough to carry a small pub stage (if push comes to shove)? We can be reasonably sure the TC 500W rating will be downhill with a strong tailwind.

My first two basses of the new era came from shops, albeit one was 4000km away because there were no retailers in NSW. The next was a custom order from Swamp Ikea. The other two were recycled from local musicians. Cab was new (and discounted) from an independent retailer, amp used (and 4000km away), and shiny boxes mainly bought used because I like to recycle.
Down the road, where one of the Allans chain used to be (inventory management was a cruel joke), they are about to open a new chain guitar shop called Manny's (which judging by the website will be sh1te), as well as a DJ City (which will be handy for keyboards, sample pads and the like).
I take it it's the rattle can part that draws this answer, or generally the idea of a refinish?
I don't wish to devalue or "cheapen" it
