Thunderbird Club

Good evening everyone. I hope all are enjoying a relaxing weekend. I am glad to be off the road and back in the man cave. Drive back was smooth. Stopped at a little stand between Cle Elum and Ellensberg and found these delicious, crazy large peaches. Liked them so much I bought 3 boxes! One for a girl at the office, one to dole out to friends, and one to eat. Looking forward to spending time outdoors working on my yard tomorrow, then barbecuing a rack of ribs. Tonight am enjoying some time with my birds. I can't stay away from them long. Have a great rest of the weekend.
YOU, my man, are having way too much fun.

When we get a score like that, out comes the blender and tequila.

It's the only high-chroma color on the stage! That red is so intense it actually looks good w/black hardware.

Could you lower the pole pieces under the G string a little ?
Tried that and by the time the chorus effect was completely gone there was also a significant volume drop on the G and D strings. Ideally I'd have relatively equal volume across the entire pup. So that's why I'm looking at other options. But at the end of the day, if nothing else works I'll screw down the G side to where it's not a problem then screw down the E side to match volume. Unfortunately when I do that it really tames down the massive beast hidden inside this bass and makes it sound fairly run of the mill.

A lot of fruit (sweets in general) goes well with spicy, but peaches and heat are the bomb. I ended up with a pound or so each of both hot and mild roasted Hatch green chiles. I'm thinking I'll eat a couple of the hot ones with some peach jam as part of my supper tonight.

Mine does not have that issue. Then again, the pickups are about as low as they will go. It still has its unique beastly quality. Either I got lucky or have prehistoric ears. Or both, which is probably closer to truth.

Jammed with the heavy band last night. The rehearsal space had an MB-800 Fusion on a Traynor cab with 2x10s and 1x15.
YOWZA! I didn’t have time to figure out all the controls, but that is a nice sounding amp!
Hopefully we get a bit more serious with that band. I forget how much fun it can be to play that loud and heavy with the right people until we are doing it:smug:

Cool! It is fun! My mostly pop band is the antithesis of 'heavy' but I also am in a power trio and it can get heavy. The trick is establishing a volume ceiling that allows for everything to be distinctly heard, including vocals. For instrumentals, the drums are the governor and everything else can't get louder than that. As far as vocals - in my book all words need to be easily heard/understood by the audience so everything conforms to that goal. Screaming over super loud music has it's moments, but a full set of it always sends me out of the club. Heavy doesn't need to be loud - just loud enough to feel heavy.

@PillO has that type of cab i believe.

Shorter intonation screws came yesterday, but I was at a conference all day. Installed and intonated this morning, and played a while. This bass just got dreamier.

As it came from the factory with the higher tension strings, I couldn't get the pickups as high as I wanted without them flopping around. Between the Supertone and the Cobalt flats, I got the strings down lower, and now with the pickups as high as they will go with stability, it's much more perfect (as Mark Heard used to say).

My phone camera refused to focus on the screws close up, but you can still see the length difference. Why this bird wants the D and G strings so long, I have no idea.

PRO TIP: Drop the saddle height back down to get the new intonation screws into the holes easily. Otherwise the tips just grind on the bottom edge of the screw holes. After you have the screws a few thread turns in, raise the saddles back up.

Darcy has a high tenor voice that’s very clean. He doesn’t scream at all, but it sits well in the mix.
