Thunderbird Club

So, my band agreed to cover Dirty Little Secret by The All-American Rejects and I was watching the video and saw that the singer was playing a Blue Thunderbird!

Did a bit of googling and found this

Looks like a run they did in Japan in the early 2000's. I'm sure most everyone but yours truly here knew that, but man I love this color!

I was aware of the Pelham blue one as I saw one on reverb a while ago, but not this shade of blue...

How awesome would this look Eppi Vintage pro style with the chrome...

Can't wait to get my eppi pro!

Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

Someone may have replied by now...but it had a Dark Star where the neck PU would be and the Jazz neck pu was moved back.

Crazy stuff. But it was the early 70s. He was no doubt trying for a Thunderbird sound from a FSO.;)

He shoulda got a NR. Prolly 98% of people wouldn't know-or care-except it'd sound better.

Around here, pools don’t do much to increase value. But houses with them generally sell faster. The cost to put one in has quadrupled in 20 years.
When my folks were looking for a house in this area, they specified "NO POOL!" A realtor showed them a nice place, then proudly pointed out the pool. My dad asked, "how much to fill it in?"-then fired the realtor for not listening. Then they bought this place. Now it's where my THUNDERBIRDS* and I reside.:)

*both are SUNBURST-close as I could get on colo(u)r

i was asking rhetorically, the same happens up here. i was told that it was because Asians moving into the area for high tech jobs don't really have pool culture and can't be bothered to learn to work the valves and the chemicals, etc....the other being young families with toddlers....makes sense but just seems counterintuitive..

My in-laws wanted-and bought-a house with a pool. Used it less and less as they got older and hated the maintenance hassle and costs.. I've never wanted one. I used to enjoy a beer in my 'nottub'(now non-working hot tub). The cat likes to get on top of it and look outside. She doesn't like thunderstorms or when I play a THUNDERBIRD.:bassist:

That is such a cool color. Don’t know what it is called. Yep, it would be an awesome VP color.

I dig Pelham Blue too. So much so, A PB Epi IV should be taking flight from NY to CA tomorrow!

I saw your post about that one...;) Congrats!

It's referred to as "Sapphire Blue". For kicks I reached out to Pat Wilkins for a quote as he has Sapphire Blue listed on his site.

Where we are, houses in good neighborhoods with good schools all have pools. Couldn’t make it through the summer without one. Recent strict fence codes make them safe for toddlers. But with the kids grown, ours doesn’t get much use any more. Sadly, pool culture is probably a thing of the past.

Bruce from Dark Star said it’s a Hagstrom Bi-sonic that Guild also used.

Interesting - so Hagstrom made a pu the looked the same as a Darkstar? (cause that pu looks like exactly like a Darkstar) Did they make it before Fred Hammond's DS/BS or... (?)

I'm pretty traditional* in bass finishes, thus both THUNDERBIRDS are sunburst. But I do love the transparent amber on the LPB25.

More like its own sound - I have used the DS/BS (both Guild and Novak) pu in the P-bass location and it's neither a P-bass sound or a T-bird sound, but can hang shoulder-to-shoulder with both.

From a design point-of-view, I like the top peg on the back of the upper horn and the lower peg off-center toward the E-string on the side. This utilizes the strap in an optimal fashion and makes for the bass resting against your body nicely. But like I said, the conventional way also works so it's more of an individual preference.
I recently moved the strap pin on my Les Paul Junior shaped bass from the upper horn to the back of the heel and it’s much more comfortable. It neckdives like a Mofo anyway...
