Thunderbird Club

Am I the only one here who actually likes that song, or the only one who will own up to it?
Musically, it’s tolerable, bit it’s nowhere near any form of rock. Lyrically, I loathe it. The production and vocals on the original grated on even my undeveloped teenage nerves. (I just went back to verify; it still makes my skin crawl.) Were I in a cover band that needed to play it, I would. But blargh.

EL84 power tubes? IIRC Traynor runs them at 400V (rather than the prescribed 300V) and gets 25W out of them.
I’ve read that but never had my hands on one. To even get close without melting the tubes, it must be biased almost to class B, with hand-selected tubes and great cooling.

I should have pointed out that it is in a push pull configuration (12.5W per EL84). And tubes are remarkably tolerant of operating outside of parameters; unlike solid state. I recall in electronics shop running tubes at twice the recommended plate voltage to see what would happen and we were disappointed that nothing happened. As for cooling, tubes are designed to run hot; and heaters always run at suggested voltage (6V in EL34 IIRC) no matter how much voltage you are running at the plate.

that would be class B. You can have class A, AB1, AB2 and B with a push-pull config. 84s run hot anyway....the question is, how long...

Oh, please. There is a LOT of excellent music being made. You may need to get out of Autotune Pop Radio Mode.
Okay, I accept my 50 lashes

If someone has not heard a singer, a song, a type of music - it is then possible to introduce them to it enhanced by your excitement and depending on the circumstances they may or may not like/be receptive to it. But when someone knows the singer, song, type of music and has already made up their mind about it - best to be content to enjoy it on your own and possibly find others receptive to enjoy it with. It happens all the time.
