It is a really well crafted bass-line. Didn't know 'No Doubt' did it but it's been done by a number of people. I saw 'No Doubt' once because I wanted to see Soul Coughing (great band!) - ND were entertaining for sure, but didn't inspire me to "follow" them.
ND had a hit with it, but I think it definitely lacked something substantial compared to the original.
I never really knew Soul Coughing... but they were contemporaries with the late era Depeche Mode, right? That era?

Clumsily put, but were they a 90s band? Similar genre?

Late 90's - early 2000's - the keyboardist/loop-triggerer was from SF. The lead guy (vocalist/songwriter - can't recall his name - went out on his own after SC) spun very clever catchy lyrics - very cultural white-boy hip-hop. I have 3 CD's - it may have been all they made. Will pull it out tomorrow as I haven't heard them for a while.

....dunno if it's for copyright issues but No Doubt's bass player cuts corners on the bass track omitting some of the best connecting passages IMHO..
Here here! The coolest aspects of the original line, as mentioned, are left out of their rendition. Including the complex mix of delicate, melodic and assertive components. The No Doubt version is kind of bludgeoning in comparison.

Happy Birthday Jeff

Since we are riffing:
Where else could you bake a cake besides in an oven?

In a Weber of course

Ok, so I've tried adding weight to the bottom of my strap in order to combat the neck dive on my NR T bird. And while it kind of works, it doesn't work well enough to justify the extra weight. So I'm at the point now where I'm ready to move the top strap pin to the neck heel.

I haven't found any examples of people doing this with a Gibson NR, only Epi's. So my question is whether or not it will work for a Gibson. And is there anything else that I should know before doing this?
My 67 Gibby NR came with the button at the neck heel. Can't see any reason for it to be anywhere else.

Does he actually say Palmyra is in the room? Reference to the Friggs Palmyra? Anyway, that is very cool.

I'm going to leave this one here ;)

Happiest of birthdays to you, Jeff. Hope you survive it to tell the tale!

That was groovy, darkly funky.

Also, if I drill into the neck heel am I going to hit the truss rod?
Dunno. As I said, mine was already there(although there is one on the upper bout-I put a TBird shaped strap button, like this one, there)ETA: Grover G620 in chrome or "gold"

No, check the depth of the screw you're using, and tape off a drill bit to mark that depth when you pre-drill the hole.
*The length of the screw- from the base of the strap button to the pointy end of the screw- is your depth*.

Note...
Drill your hole a bit less than all the way to the pointy end. Let it dig it just a bit. And don't forget that the diameter of the bit should be a bit less that the screw's threads. They need to be able to bite into the wood.
Obvious to some, but it doesn't hurt to mention.
