Thunderbird Club

Is you cello back in business? I recall it was on its way, but then it disappeared from the collective consciousness.

Every couple of weeks I tune it, play a couple of scales (pizzicato), think 'must sort out a bow', then something happens and I think 'next month'. It will happen.

Addendum: still considering geared tuners but they are a ($500) luthier job.

Scots-Irish/residual Pict here too. And a few other fine breeds, thanks Rhode Island and Providence Plantations...

Mostly Irish, big hunk of English, and Ancestry tells me the 3rd largest chunk is Norwegian. Which was a surprise - but I guess that’s Viking &/or Norman remnants.

The last 12ish percent is where it gets exotic (and the reason I took the test) Western Europe (should be France) and then the people they brought over to Mauritius to work the sugar cane fields, Africans and then a dash of SE Indian (no clue on that prior).

I generally get questioned by people (often, and all my life) that guess Italian, Greek or Lebanese.
Although a Zimbabwean bloke I met got right into the “what are you?” type questions straight away and told me I look just like many South African coloured folk. Which was new to me. I checked with a white South African lady at work and she had a chuckle after I told the story of the Zimbabwean guy and his comments, and just said “he is right”.

I don't hate the guy, he had a helluva voice. I just don't understand the near deification* some people put forth.

* or would that be "diofication?"
bet you didn’t know Dio means God in Italian...no joke..definitely pretty full of himself....not even his real name lol..

Don't know if he was full of himself, but he definitely was into flying in the face of popular religion, and the construct of pop-holiness. Like any rock band that seeks notoriety through the disruption of popular, accepted ideas, he chose a name for its' ability to offend. Got lots of fans that way.

how do you mean?

Lol, gawd. I'm going for a cortisone shot next to the base of my spine pretty soon. At least V's legs look like they're in good trim!

Tell me about it brother, I had X-rays of my left hip earlier today - osteoarthritis ... not good news for an ex road-bicycle racer who is still active on the bike. In general I really am enjoying my "autumn years" but this is the part that sucks. Gotta do what you gotta do...

So I just saw Mike Watt (yah, that Mike Watt) at Winters, my local walking distance Pacifica Tavern. 3 bands, first 2 local bands were great! All original music - 2nd band a trio; male bass & drums - female viola/singer. Wow! really good. Somewhat proggy, a little metal, a bit Jethro Tull, a dash of Joy Division... they went for it! Watt started a 5 stop West Coast tour here, and they debuted a very cool set of improv-style music. "Improv style" as in, it had a structure - but was open for interpretation. Watt played his Reverend (whatever variation) signature bass. It is a short-scale EB-0 type bass - (currently) in natural with a rw fb and P/J pu combo. Currently because he keeps wanting changes as he's playing it. (understandable) Watt has played many basses, but he's primarily known for playing Gibson basses, including T-birds. This Reverend and his amplification express 'Gibson' to my ears. His sound/tone was very classic "old school" Gibson. His tone was the Gibson version of a P-bass; earthy, nice punch, raw but focused - he has his sound dialed. Their set got pretty dreamy too, and one was reminiscent of Maggot Brain, but not quite as gnarly. Finished before midnight! (school night!) They're off to Bakersfield (home of Buck Owens) and then LA. After they tour they go into the studio to record what they are hashing out on the road - will look forward to hearing it when it surfaces.
Yeah, he’s playing Jerry’s Pizza tomorrow night. I’m gonna try and make it. Busy times though.

Jerry’s Pizza is a tiny venue where Korn (not my thing) first played. The owner has been one of a few in Bako keeping the live music scene going. Not the funnest place to see a show though. Can get way too crowded and earplugs are often required apparel.

Could be worse. My brother had a bike accident about eight or so weeks ago, fractured his hip and is just now weight bearing without a cane. He’s 60. His riding days are over per his wife.

I always wear hearing protection at shows. Gotta protect the hearing I have left:thumbsup:

Yep, indeed... I'm figuring that an old martial arts master loses some flexibility, elasticity, speed, strength. But what the years of practice, physical and mental, etc discipline have afforded him/her is something that transcends the apparent.
If you're going to screw with someone, don't screw with the oldest cat in the room...

That's why we marry. ;)

I've had a few of them in different joints.

The good - the pain stops very soon afterwards. There is a local anesthetic mixed in with the steroid, so there is immediate relief.
The bad - it is a long needle and they have to get it to the location where the drug is needed. Don't flinch and hope that whoever is doing the injection has good landmarking skills.

My personal experience is mixed; with relief ranging from a couple of days to several weeks, but I tend to 'live with it' until things are no longer manageable and it is better to seek earlier intervention. However, there are people that get long lasting relief - several months or longer.
Took one in my knee a few moths back after not being able to walk. I’m not going to get a surgery. I’m too young for that.

Ditto, but I'll also alert you to the fact that this is a local RI band made up of guys that haven't quite let go of the 80's... or the eyeliner...

For added entertainment, pay attention to the guitar solo at around the 2:03 mark, especially the whammy bar-less dive bomb at around 2:15ish :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: Why not bring the guitar that you used in the studio to the video shoot? Or at least one with a vibrato bar?!?!?

Can’t get it to play. Is that a good thing?
