Thunderbird Club

Well, impromptu noise session today. That was fun. unfortunately, when we do it spur of the moment, we don't think about what songs to do and we always have trouble remembering what songs we know (yeah, it is as bad as that sounds).

And also took 30 minutes to learn to play Taxman. Official excuse - every one needs some several Beatles in their repertoire. Real reason would get me banned, but well, that is probably enough said.
Not sure exactly what you’re talking about, but yeah Beatles tunes are good to know!
Recording sessions with a Zoom recorder helps.

Every time I have looked at Gibson straps, I have marvelled at how expensive they are and how cheap they feel. An impressive price to quality ratio. I would much rather get a real leather strap from another manufacturer. My $0.02 and advice worth that much. I have been very impressed with these straps.

No padding, but the leather conforms to me in a way that is very comfortable.

I use cheap Dunlop straps with one of these shoulder pads: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Z5FW6PP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like a loooooong strap, buying one long enough for me from a really great quality company would cost a fortune even if I could find one.

The Odin-Viking is nice, but my guitar player uses a brown one with his Gibson Firebird guitar, and I don’t want to nick his style...
Currently, I’m using a Bear strap, made by hand by Rupert Breeden in England

Compare and contrast with your Casady. We have to get @fasterpussycat off the fence about buying one.
I still love my alpine white JCB, but my current project has more of a punk rock flair, and I wanted a solid body that I could pound on a little more...especially for those longer gigs. The Jackbass (and 335 bass) are great bass guitars, but have a boomier sound than the T-Bird. I love the thin neck and nitro finish on the T-Bird.

Actually, if you want to do something useful ... you could measure the OA length + the width of the arse on the JC as those dimensions don't appear to be online anywhere (just packing box dimensions). Then I'll know whether one would fit in my gig bag.

millimetres/centimetres/inches will work -- please no parsecs.

Finally !
It took almost a year, but I'm finally reactivating membership #513 with today's acquisition, a 2008 Gibson Thunderbird w/hardcase. She has seen quite a lot of action and she needs a bit of love, but she is overall in good shape. I played through an SVT/810 Ampeg rig at the seller's rehearsal space and later with my Traynor DNB115 combo while hamming it up at my brother's house and she sounds beautiful ! I'll order a pickguard to replace the yellowing one she's sporting right now, as well as a Hipshot Bass XTender and I'll pick-up new knobs, the cap is missing on one of the volume knobs. It's only my second used bass (the other one was a white Epi TBird Classic Pro IV, what a coinkidink...), but this one has the warhorse look and feel and hopefully some mojo !

I have to go to bed, but it'll be a while before I fall asleep... :)

I got a strap with built in straplocks and a separate shoulder pad from D'Addario, IIRC from the Talkbass store-I think. Away from home, will try to shoot(fuzzy) pics when I return.

Since you're planning on replacing the knobs: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L844M7L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have those on one of mine and they look great against the mahogany.

I have no clue what that means.

The IV isn't the Roman numeral four, but rather shortening 'intravenous'. Butterfly IVs are the tiny pediatric needles used to give fluids. I know of this because I have been binging Forensic Files at work, since it's dead this week. And I just maid an unintended pun because the show's usually about a murder.
