Amen! You and me both.

It's not a link. You'll need to copy the item number in my post and paste it into the search bar on eBay.
Oh. I am a little slow. It is a CroMagnon thing, but I found it anyway. One is on the way for the '15. It will probably get black tapes. None more black. Except it is dark burst.

Hey guys. I bought a new pair of emg tbhz pickups with controls toput into a custom bird build that didn't happen. Im currently playing a spector classic x. I dont want to enlarge the pickup routes to accomodate the tbhz's, even though Im betting they sound great. So, if anyone has some emg 35 dimensions pickups, specifically the p and j type, let me know if you would like to trade, or buy my never used tbhz's. Id like to get some better pickups in there without performing permanent surgery on the spector.

Well, I installed the Hipshot bridge on my Epi Classic Pro tonight and am I impressed! Very simple installation: remove old bridge with its 3 bolts, and put on Hipshot with 2 supplied metric bolts. Don't overtighten. Hipshot supplied the allen key to install the bolts as well as the allen key to make string height and string spacing adjustments. Intonation is accomplished with a phillips head screwdriver. The string spacing adjustment came in handy as the strings were slightly off center toward the top of the bass - very slightly. . . I am just fussy. I easily centered them using the spacing adjusters.
It is great to be able to set individual string height. My bass now has overall lower action with no fret buzz, and is better intonated. Better playability all around. As far as sound quality is concerned, I won't know for sure until band practice on Friday, but I already notice an improvement in sustain. If any T-birders ( Gibsons too - both metric and non-metric bolts are supplied ) are on the fence about the Hipshot bridge all I can say is: don't be. Well worth the money and a terrific upgrade. Cheers! :thumbsup:

never worked on that model but from the pic;

it would seem the tubes are easily accessible (six screws? with possibly some in the back).
Can you describe the hiss? is it like a SHHHHH?....or like a high pitched whine? dirty tube sockets or improperly seated tubes can be the reason for SHHH type hiss..
Hey Chucky, thanks much for the reply. The hiss is more of the SHHHHH type, not really a whine. It gets progressively louder as the gain is dialed up. Even with the treble all the way down, it is still noticeable, even at low volumes. I appreciate your suggestions. I will try swapping tubes and cleaning the sockets. I admit that is about the extent of my amp repair skills. I am curious if I will get a reply from Ashdown's customer service, and will post what I can find out. Thanks much.

Counting down the hours until I can slam the door shut on 2019's arse ... thinking about Thunderbirds in 2020.

I am only 5'-10", but have a simian wingspan that is over 6'. It helps. It also helps to sling the bass low and tip the neck up. Everything is an easy reach that way. The downside is that you have to pay attention or you will end up playing the strings in different aces with your plucking hand. At the extreme, the g string can fade out because you end up playing too close to the bridge for it to have any breath. (Cue up PillO.)

I'm not going to take the bait.

There is nothing wrong with the 3 point bridge. But I like the Hipshot bridge enough that I have them on all my Gibson/Epiphone basses that they will fit on.
