What's all this poppycock about "slapping" a bass? Why would anyone want to hit their basses? What did their basses do to THEM to warrant such physical abuse?
There's probably a hotline for that. Maybe there should be.

I've been all tube for over ten years and no sudden problems or otherwise for that matter. For me, the sound is worth it. Mine are all 100w heads. I would not lug an SVT around.
And the sidelong glances from the rest of the group are 'priceless'.
It was really cool. Brought tears to my eyes. She's a local girl from Delano. Her Dad is quite the talent. Her parents sponser a youth Mariachi band. The venue owner, Pat of World Records in Bakersfield, became aware of her through the local NPR affiliate and invited her to open. Standing ovation from a packed house. She's attending Harvard and was home on break. Pretty sure she's headed for stardom. Closest comparison of her voice is Linda Ronstadt. She's that good.
Cool. My last amp and cab purchase will come this year or next. Top of my list is a Mesa WD 800 with the matching 4x10 lightweight cab. Mainly because I've been able to play through it at the Mesa store in LA and was blown away. But the Forte setup is intriguing. Very interested in hearing more about it.

those would be from the Bass Magnifier series. Hybrid preamp and BJT PA. Their first design and by far their best selling and field tested. The only trick with most Ashdowns is to match speakers properly and not way overdrive the input. If these conditions are met, they are bulletproof.

Good day everyone. I caught up with the tech late yesterday and was glad I had brought one of the PF cabs along. I was noodling on a p bass he handed me in an effort to demonstrate the rattle. It was a bit surprising when he literally turned the master up to 10 at one point. The gain was about 1:00, not only the amp but random objects in the room were rattling! I am convinced the rattle is behind the input jacks, he was going to give it another cleaning as well. The little Ashdown hissed on cue with whatever is amiss in the gain stage, and he thought it would be something he could manage. I left with two impressions. Lighter gear, especially the Orange Terror and a pair of those 20 some pound cabs are looking better all the time. The other is he had two uprights, one he bought off craigslist here in Spokane and had repaired. He encouraged me to attempt playing them, as he was interested in their tones from some feet away. I know nothing of how to play them, but confess to having enjoyed trying them. He encouraged me to consider buying the repaired bass to see if it would grow on me. Can hardly imagine the Mrs. If I were to bring it home.
