Good day everyone. I caught up with the tech late yesterday and was glad I had brought one of the PF cabs along. I was noodling on a p bass he handed me in an effort to demonstrate the rattle. It was a bit surprising when he literally turned the master up to 10 at one point. The gain was about 1:00, not only the amp but random objects in the room were rattling! I am convinced the rattle is behind the input jacks, he was going to give it another cleaning as well. The little Ashdown hissed on cue with whatever is amiss in the gain stage, and he thought it would be something he could manage. I left with two impressions. Lighter gear, especially the Orange Terror and a pair of those 20 some pound cabs are looking better all the time. The other is he had two uprights, one he bought off craigslist here in Spokane and had repaired. He encouraged me to attempt playing them, as he was interested in their tones from some feet away. I know nothing of how to play them, but confess to having enjoyed trying them. He encouraged me to consider buying the repaired bass to see if it would grow on me. Can hardly imagine the Mrs. If I were to bring it home.
I hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend. Sunny, cool and very windy in north Spokane today. Go Zags, go Seahawks!
I had an Ampeg Portaflex that rattled like crazy...never could figure out what caused it.

Man this bass is totally rockin'! The Destroyer topic came up a few days ago - this one even has the super-nice heart-shaped tuner paddles. I'd love too pop for it but maybe someone else would be interested.

I'd normally be all over it at that price in that condition - but that string spacing looks huge, like in excess of 3/4" between the strings at the bridge. Any idea what the actual scale length and spacing is at the bridge?

Get yer fingers stuck between strings.

all roads lead to Class D...
If I ever had another gig like the one in Miami-in the 70s-, 6 nights a week for 5 1/2 years, I might get me a nice tube amp to leave on stage. Otherwise, less weight the better. Besides, no one but us pays any attention to the bass player.(sigh)

A new record temp.

It only hit 45 C at my place (about 113 F). Too flippin hot.

hopefully the drought breaks soon. We are heading towards 'running out of water' territory.
Rain in February is the hope... meanwhile hopefully this can get helped to die out asap. Can't imagine being in that spot. Stay wise.

Do you have much experience with the reliability of, or any thoughts on Ashdown MAG amps? I have seen a couple for decent prices so thought about getting one to try out.
I never tried any of the MAG amps but just LOVE my JE Signature Pre, I'm sure it would be a worthy investigation although the Ashdown I've been curious about is The Infamous "Head Of DOOM"

What can I say, it's "Basically NIB"

Wow, I'm not especially into the P/Js but otherwise that's a gorgeous bass. I have a real weakness for these sort of body shapes. Not weird or pointy ones overall, just Explorer, Thunderbird/Firebird, and Iceman type styles. This is basically an Explorer on a diet.
