Thunderbird Club

:) Thanks! I like that song, thanks for turning me on to them! I've always liked beautiful music in any form it comes in. Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell is probably my favorite song in that respect - such a gem.
Big OH YEAH to Wichita Lineman. Beautifully written, beautifully performed, beautifully recorded.

aren’t the Fender flats d’addario
(chromes?) now?

I loved it when it first came out.
Since then...
Still love it.

Along with pretty much everything Glen Campbell did in the mid to late 1960s. I still go back and peruse his catalog.

But... I didn't realize Johnny Rivers did "By the Time I get to Phoenix" first. Another winner. Or that Don Ho first did Galveston. Or that later, Isaac Hayes covered BtTIGtP. (19 minutes worth!) Wow. Go wander youtube and Wikipedia to fill in the blanks in your music history.

Meanwhile, for bass-driven, multi-instrument light rock, here's some nice, gooey goodness:

I have to tend to agree with PillO on Cobalts having a odd and rough feeling. I won't go all Drama Queen and say cheese shredders;):D or rasps, but I don't care for the feel. My fingers feel like they have been roughed up after much playing.

Come to think of it, reminds me a little of cheese shredders.
I guess there's been some QC issues. I have them on 2 basses(and had them on the EpiBird 5er). Love the tones and the texture.

I've had them on the basic IV for months now and still love them. They were a bright spot in The Sad Affair of the Pro V and My Left Hand. I have a 5-string set on order; the lower 4 will go on the IV (bridge work ahead), and the strings on there now will move to the VP.

I searched youtube and found 10 really different versions of Wichita Lineman by REI, Kool and the Gang, The Meters, Johnny Cash <not very good at all~ and by Rita Wilson & Cassandra Wilson. (no relation!) And this cool version by the Dells -

The ones on the EpiBird 5er nearly 'saved' that bass for me, but I couldn't make peace with the alder body/maple neck-and its profile/PJ pup combination. But they're on my LPB2/5 and I like 'em.

This is freaking amazing. The vocals are so good I didn't notice the bass was buried until about half way through.
They do a really cool and different "Whiter Shade of pale", too!
