Thunderbird Club

aren’t the Fender flats d’addario
(chromes?) now?
Sorry if someone already chimed in. No, they do sound different. I like the Fender's because they are more balanced in tone, whereas the Chromes have more lows and more highs. Which is why I think they are favorites for round players who wants a bass with flats. I love the Fender's, never found Chromes to sound good on anything, and I tried. Maybe one day I'll spend more money trying them and not regret it that time.

As a guy who loves the car culture and often rides his motorcycle for pleasure, I feel like we're in an interesting place in history regarding the automobile. The older generations who equated the automobile with freedom are slowly dying off and the younger generations don't have that same connection to the automobile. Times they are a-changin'. Motorsports are slowly dying, and that includes things like NHRA and NASCAR. It's a slow change, but the culture of this world is changing, make no mistake about it.
Where is the rotten kid @Dr_Feelgoood212 ? to add his (probably mild) opinion on the matter?

I'm seeing a pattern here! Pretty colors both.
Favorite car I’ve owned was a blue ‘87 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon. Last two Subies have been blue. My P bass is LP Blue. My Mustang is Sonic Blue. There’s the Epi bird and soon to be mine PB Gibby NR. And I’ve got my heart set on yet another blue bass in the future. So yeah, it’s a pattern.

I was thinking of you when playing the ‘15 with cobalts Tuesday night. Still as smooth as the very smooth chromes on my P.
....for the “others” (thunderbirds) I use the Big T Heavy Bass gigbag...explorer shaped, but fits rev and non rev birds.... my epiphone rivoli sleeps in his JC case, no gigbag....

Fits the

There is no bad publicity

category.

Custom Craft? Tell me more...

This bass was made for only a few years ('66-'68) by Custom Kraft, who bought out the Kay company. They made HB guitars also. The bass was called the "Bone Buzzer" - one of the most creative names for a bass out there, only rivaled by the Tokai "Hard Puncher". Custom Craft as a brand had been around since the 50's - mostly Spanish-style acoustic guitars, and some with added-on electronics. After the boom-years of the '60s, the end of the era saw many buyouts and company failures. Danelectro to Coral for a few years - bust, Fender to CBS - nearly ruined the company, and Kay to Custom Kraft - bust. What goes up must come down. As you all know - there were no T-birds made for 5 years during that period.

Hmmm, Now that I have a Reggae band going, I’m thinking about putting a Mudbucker (old Gibson)in a long scale.
Funny you should mention that - this is my go to bass for Reggae, followed by my SG Supreme with Roto flats.

2018 Gibson RD Artist bass showed up today! What a beast! Will put my strings on and give it a full run through tonight...

Nice bass!
Those look like the same pups as my 2015 bird and 2013 EB5. If so, you're in for a treat. Took me quite some time to figure out, but the Dicola pups don't like to be too close to the strings and they love heavy gauge Black Beauty Taper wounds.

THUNDERBIRD THURSDAY!!!

You[1] can tune an angry piano[2] but you can't tuna fish[3[.

[1] Hopefully, since you're in The Club.
[2] Although if it's angry enough, its headstock might fly off and kill you[5].
[3] Much less two fish[4].
[4] Red fish blue fish rainbow fish.
[5] Speaking of killing you, those pickup height screws are only going to get more dangerous when I get more foam and raise the pickups. Won't even need to be windmilling.

COOL SLIPPERS! WANT! They look like salmon or perhaps steelhead.

I have Homer Simpson slippers (put your foot into Homer's mouth).

Any reasons as to why the single pickup sounds different than just having the bridge turned off? Which is a great sound, for sure.

Oh boy - now you've gone and done it! Where's my bs filter for what's going to come next... :bag:

I have to tend to agree with PillO on Cobalts having a odd and rough feeling. I won't go all Drama Queen and say cheese shredders;):D or rasps, but I don't care for the feel. My fingers feel like they have been roughed up after much playing.

Come to think of it, reminds me a little of cheese shredders.

Thanks! I put some TI jazz flats on it, and hold crud, this thing is a real beast! Comes in at 13 lbs...but found that a 2" Dunlop D3809BK was just fine for over an hour jam this evening!

My EB 3 had flats on, don't know what make, when I bought it. Tried it out at the geezers place and the first thing I thought was rounds.
I put it through my ashdown Evo ll 300 4x10 and twiddled about for half hour when I got home.
Internet was next job, ordering rounds.
I just ordered LaBella flats for my EBO!

I had a beautiful blue burst G&L L2000. The pic in no way does it justice.

Ok, interesting. I’m pleased with chromes on my P. only thing was getting used to the tautness.

Maybe I should try Fenders on something.

I can't see how there would be much if any perceptible difference. I can't see the additional wiring and PU altering the tone on the neck PU when off.
Can I have one of those bags for the head too please?:)
