Thunderbird Club

I've done that. Sounds like a bass RAT and a flanger. If my guitarist does it, sounds like a Green Russian with reverb and delay. Maybe we're not taking this whole 'pedals thing' seriously enough.
There is nothing serious about pedals. Need a Korg Miku into flange and delay with a Thunderbird... Quickly find out who has lots of experience with LSD.

Seeing as we're talking about the sound reproduction of THUNDERBIRDS we should be able to do this here. My 'problem' with 210s isn't necessarily bass extension (which is dependent on physical design factors, not diameter), it's more that they probably aren't going to move a lot of air. Given a choice I would always go for 4 x 12s or 2 x 15s -- although the 212 is thunderous enough for my needs.

There are plenty of compact and lightweight 212s*. Then again if you are going to have PA support and only need a stage monitor 210 is prolly fine -- TWO would be better.

* Smaller and lighter than the 29kg SVT212AV, which I wanted because it's 4Ω.
Doing a little mathing...
a 15 is about 12% larger than 2 10s. a 12 is about 40% larger than a 10. so 2x12 ~ 3x10 and 1x15 ~ 2x10. So ceteris paribus a 2x12 is perhaps 15% louder than a 2x10. 1X15 and 2x10 will be almost indistinguishable (for volume).

I always liked the sound and air from quality 15 or 12 inch drivers over 10s but somehow I currently happen to have three 4x10 cabs strategically placed a various locations around my hometown. The newest is a Genz Benz 'Focus' model that was crazy cheap when they closed the company out. I found the port makes it very loud but sorta 'boomy' so I made a removable port seal when I don't need to be so loud. I also have an old SWR GOLIATH III that looks like it needs a haircut or something. If I dug into that rat fur I am sure I would find a couple of joints, a 714 and some phone numbers on matchbooks.

Yes. All one needs to know.
It’s subtle but there’s a difference as you have the extra volume pot in parallel with the tone circuit. You might not notice it unless you can a/b it with and without, but some players can tell.
It’s not exactly the same, but something like changing between 250k and 500k volume pots.

Math is funny... sometimes it disappears, becomes compromised by the chaos created by the actions of devil-may-care waves in a particular shape or size of room...

What do you get when you cross an elephant with a grape?

elephant grape sine theta

@Chucky Stiletti and @GBassNorth are probably the only ones laughing/rolling their eyes at that.

There are other considerations -- driver sensitivity for example. Ken and I have been discussing a 410 that does 105dB @ 1W/1m, which goes a long way to making up for a lowish output amplifier.

I did preface it with ceteris paribus... There is so much more to all of it than just driver size. Sensitivity, frequency response, cabinet design...

The seller and I exchanged our messages, payment is posted and he’ll be setting it in flight on the 1500 mile journey to me today. Now the wait begins. I’m excited! The aviary will be a bit crowded. Here’s a pic from the seller’s listing:

Congrats! I'm envious, but in a good way, and happy for you. Maybe one day I'll run across one at a buy I can't pass up.

Maybe he's throwing in that great head as well for the wait!

Happy Friday everyone, I hope your week has been good. I am hoping for a little advice about monitors. I literally know almost nothing about them. The monitors we have used went with the drummer when he retired. I inherited these two and am likely going to try using them. Anyone familiar with them? I am told I need a pre amp to power them. Any suggestions? The only "preamp" I currently have is an MXR Bass Preamp that I use as a DI. Any suggestions, including sell 'em and get new ones would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone.
Not familiar with those, but if they're not powered, you'll need to take a cable outta the PA to get anything out of them. If they're powered, a "line out" connection will get them working.
