Thunderbird Club

Happy Friday everyone, I hope your week has been good. I am hoping for a little advice about monitors. I literally know almost nothing about them. The monitors we have used went with the drummer when he retired. I inherited these two and am likely going to try using them. Anyone familiar with them? I am told I need a pre amp to power them. Any suggestions? The only "preamp" I currently have is an MXR Bass Preamp that I use as a DI. Any suggestions, including sell 'em and get new ones would be greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend everyone.
Those are just passive speakers, so you would need some kind of amp to run them.
For my cover band’s monitors, I use a power amp that lives in a rack case with the XR18 mixer.

Some of us need two. More cowbell compensates for lack of talent.

Hmmm. If you daisy chained a bunch of More Cowbell and Suck pedals in an alternating fashion, which down the line would catch fire first, trying to over-compensate?

This would make a fun video. Keep tapping in the next pedal while someone played a mighty THUNDERBIRD until one caught fire- or they all started a war.

Mine was staples.

Really? Ours must have been different production years because I am pretty sure they were the same model number. I no longer own it so can't check.

I have the Bach gig bag for the NR. Really nice bag. When I got the bass it came with no case but I was told Bach made a hardshell for it. When talking to Roman he told me all they had left was the gig bag. Did you ever see the hardshell case from Bach? Did it ever exist?

The case did in fact exist. I know a couple of people ordered them and said they were of good quality but looooong.

You need a passport for those two. Decent amount of the East Coast, actually.

210s seem way more plentiful than 212s. I'd love to keep it smaller like that. Power is the question. Will I be lacking anywhere.
Hey man for gigs like the News Cafe in Pawtucket a 210 will do it. Are you running any significant PA you can line to?
For a couple years all I used was a home modded 410-to-210 cab, 4 ohms, with a pair of Eminence BP102s. Those hit deep, and I've been carrying smallish clubs with it. My GK 212 combo sees more use now, but the bigger difference is more midrange, so it seems to carry better. But I was fine with the 10s.

And I generally don't line to PA.

Good question. I'll have to start calling around to the clubs. I was thinking more of being self-sufficient and then going from there. Good to know a 210 would be good enough for News Cafe. That's really helpful. Since I've always usss crappy NYC house rigs, I never had to plan anything like this.

those don't look "powered" If so, you are going to need a power amp as well. Do they have an AC wall socket power cord/plug?
Good afternoon Chucky, and thanks for the reply. No AC power in, or any other in beside the 1/4 jacks in the one photo. I do not know how old they are, but if they work, and getting them powered isn't too much of a hassle, I may give them a try at our next gig.

Those look passive to me. You would need a power amp as well as a pre. What are you using them for?
Hello Gaolee, I am hoping to use them with the cover band I am a part of. A good portion of our gear went with the drummer when he retired, and we are taking stock of what we have among us. I inherited these, and am not certain if they are worth getting a power amp and a pre amp to use, or just getting new ones. We don't gig that often, and at present don't have anything booked until early May.
I used to live in your neck of the woods. Loved the city, got tired of the traffic. It wasn't a good fit, as I was living south of the airport and working north of the U. I still love to visit and have friends and family up and down the sound.
