Thunderbird Club

Cool. Haven't heard that in a long time. So glad you posted that!

Thunderbird is a bonus. Clearly not a one trick pony. But did you see him constantly fighting that neck dive.:D:D
You’re a funny guy. Thunderbirds do not have a neck dive issue. So is it written. So it shall be.

Seriously. I have five now. I use good straps. I love my Birds. They suit my personality, sound amazing and make me happy. I’ve got a couple of nice basses that likely will leave soon. I play my Birds, my Peavy Foundation with Super Ferrites and my 7ender MIM P with Chromes. The others, nice basses, just sit on the wall.

Good news/bad news...

Good news
No problem with the weight of a Thunderbird on my shoulder.
Thunderbird still sounds awesome
I can now reach the 4th fret

Bad news
Can't lift a bass with my left hand - just too much weight
Can't get the strap over my head with my left hand (while the right supports the bass)
Insufficient external rotation to reach past the 4th fret
I can't lift my arm far and long enough to play for more than about 15 seconds

Prognosis
Better than it was a week ago, so it is all headed in the right direction!
Glad to here things are slowly getting better. Keep doing what you should, and not doing what you shouldn't.

I have to admit that I'm getting more spoiled to my Thunderbirds (and old Embassy). I use the '64 more now than risking it years ago, and now that I have other Thunderbird options I find I grab one of those more than my other basses--even some killer late 50s and early 60s Ps and Js. I love my other basses, but I even miss the VPs when I don't take one. Hence I don't go more than a week without a Thunderbird and sometimes go weeks without playing anything else. And with good straps I don't have neck dive. If I used something slick on the back and let go and touched nothing, that would be another matter. But I use nice straps and don't fight anything. The '64 Embassy is by far more prone to take a dive, due to being longer than any Bird.

You may have it backwards for PillO. Spell check keeps wanting to change it to PollO. Or chicken in Spanish. There is a message somewhere. Maybe. It would be clear if the chicken was fried and served with mellon.

Cat daydreaming about Thunderbird.
