Thunderbird Club

I’m glad it’s going well for you guys there. Here near “ground zero” we’ve had a record 50+ restaurants close over the last week and a half and most of those have shut the doors for good. They anticipate many more closing and the number of “out of business” signs harkens back to 2008. I work in the restaurant design field and I personally know a lot of these operators. We are easily pushing 100,000 people who have now lost their job. I’m literally concerned about holding on to my house we just purchased less than a year ago. It took me 12 years to recover from the last financial storm. We lost our house, our family business and every drop of savings we had. Here I am staring face to face with what feels like the same monster.
Hang in there. Hopefully this craziness will pass quickly.

As I grow tired of waiting for Eppi to release a NR VP I'm starting to get that wandering eye and itchy credit card finger. The Eppi JC is a real contender for my money, potentially this also a contender...

...anybody have any experience with the bisonic equipped Guild Starfire II? I like the thought of a SS on a hollow body vs the 34" scale of the JC.

I'd want to play it first - but it looks to have all the right stuff.

It looks a lot like my EB-2. If it sounds like it, or something like it, it is a keeper. It probably would, with a hollow or semi-hollow body and humbuckers. Assuming the neck is ok. So far, every neck has been ok for my CroMagnon hands. That may not be a universal indicator.

With all the depressing virus news I'm looking at the bright side and proactively getting ahead of the curve...

(I need to update this photo, the 2015 has a black plate now)
Black plates are a requirement on '15s. I don't remember how many of us have them. Four? And all of us went for black replacement pickguards. White works fine on everything else, but black just makes a '15.

LOL - Same here. I have dozens of different brands and models of basses in all different scales and even many in 5 string. I have yet to find a neck I can't get along with. I might be a bit more Neanderthal though. ;)

Note on the VP with Cobalt flats vs tone...
I had been running my Boss GEB-7 with a lop-sided mild inverse smile (more treble cut) on my plain IV with CFs. For the VP with RS66s, I ran a different inverse smile with even more highs cut, and there was still lots of angry piano kerrrang! But with Cobalt flats on the VP, I have to run things basically flat. Any rise in the mids at all leads to honk somewhere in the range of the first few frets.
That said, it didn't take long to sort that out, and she definitely brings the thunder, but I can still get all the mids and highs I want, when I want them. (I don't typically want a lot, but every once in a while it gets funky.)
yep, wonder if the extra steel of the windings on flats is responsible for the response you mention... the flats definitely sound meatier..

For a while now I've been contemplating putting my 2015 pups in smoke or chrome black cans with faux trim rings. Very easy to do on the 15 since the pups aren't epoxy set in the covers, just held in place with a dab of silicone caulking. It will change the voicing a bit according to the non scientific test I did, but I'd consider it an improvement. And it's completely reversible.

If you are referring to the Guild - it's semi-hollow and singles (Darkstars)

Tomorrow morning our Governor is signing a bill officially forcing ALL restaurants and bars to close. The bill states “All on premise dining” meaning any establishment that serves food or beverage. I don’t even want to think of the number of employees who literally just forcibly lost their income and what the ripple effect of that on the economy will be. But I can tell you that it has me unable to sleep.

Just remember to look up when addressing this, not down.

Wow!

I can foresee constitutional challenge(s). And lawsuits against the government for loss of livelihood. As much as I will argue for over-reaction followed by dialling back, this seems extreme. What next, closing of any business with more than 100 on-site employees?

Wow! Beat me to it! My mom had a 72 and I remember that well like it was yesterday, my brother and I used to get in it and make funny faces out the rear window at cars behind us...when I see a bug these days I cannot believe we fit in there!

We had a 69 Beetle but only when we were too big for that trick.
However my Uncle had a couple of earlier Beetles when we were young (before that same 69 and type 3s) plus some other family friends, so certainly not immune to trying that.

Took my sister for a 5km walk on Saturday followed by breakfast. On the drive to drop her home we saw a Beetle coming the other way and she says ‘that Beetle we had was my favourite’.
Funny that today we are talking about Beetles.
