Thunderbird Club

i have pondered a Hipshot D style, reversed. Not sure it would work, tho.
The Babicz bridge is great, and IMHO looks better on a T-Bird than the Hipshot. The Hipshot is a bit too wide, and overhangs the wings a tad, and to me looks like it has an underbite.
They make the Babicz in chrome / gold / black for Gibson Thunderbirds and in black for Epis. (the difference being that the bridge anchors on the Gibson are flush w/ the top of the bass, and the Epis have a lip that sticks up about 1/8" or 1/16" or so)

Shipping woe follow-up: I called the post office this morning. Nice guy answered the phone, knew the entire issue before I started to explain it to him. Told me I could come and pick it up today or I could have it mailed to me and I would get t tomorrow.

I was feeling lucky so I said mail it...also have this pesky thing called a job I have to do... all in all not terrible. Turns out the address was keyed in wrong at the the point of origination. Better than any Fedex/UPS issue/problem I have ever had to work through.

Had to swap in the Supertone to get the Cobalts to intonate. That definitely pushed me toward the white PG, although Sharon and I agree they're both gorgeous. What do y'all think? She looks right at home in the case formerly occupied by Leon. But he's a free bird, so he was happy to move into the soft case. Calls it "cozy". She said her name is Pattie ' like Santos, who sang "White Bird" (and many others) with It's a Beautiful Day.

Now that Pattie unleashes the thunder, I'll give the RS66s back to Hela and see what I can do with an angry piano.
Man, that looks great with either pickguard! If forced to make a choice though, I guess I'd go with the white.

Also, you taught me something that I didn't know. (Or maybe knew and forgot.) I never realized that the female singer of "White Bird" was Pattie Santos. I thought it was Linda LaFlamme. I actually have that old vinyl album!! One of my favorites on that album is "Girl With No Eyes". Now pass me a tab of that Orange Sunshine... :D

Excellent catch!
I wasn't aware that Babicz had come out with a replacement bridge specifically for the Eppi that takes the raised insert shoulders (body insert flare as they call it) into account. Here it is...

Good to see them on top top of this, it really is a top notch bridge.

Good to know if I don't like the bridge on my Epi VP, RI, NR, TB II/IV when I get it.

Phew!

I called the post office customer service yet again today. I told them the bass went to Los Angeles from Phoenix on its way to Louisville Kentucky. That it supposedly left LA Tuesday night and all I get is that it's on its way to the next facility. Very nice young lady on the phone this time. I told her that it could have virtually gotten to any place in the United States by this time. It has to have arrived someplace unless it is simply riding on a truck going about 35 miles an hour, in which case it has yet to arrive anyplace. She understood my concern when I told her it was an expensive instrument not a $50 pair shoes. She said that she could see that it was delayed but could not understand why and could not see exactly where it was. I told her that was part of my problem that no one seems to know exactly where it is. It has to be someplace in this journey and no one knows where that is. She said she was going to hand it off to another person to track down the problem and see if it can't be sped up. Seriously doubt that speeding anything up will happen. (Like offering Priority shipping.) At this point I'm beginning to wonder if they even know where it is if it is still in the system. As I told her it can't leave Los Angeles and travel for several days and not be someplace. I realize it's ground and there will be some delays, but if it's going to take over three weeks to get someplace, the post office should tell you that and not make you think it's going to be there in a week when that's highly unlikely. Tomorrow it will be three weeks since shipped.:banghead:

Next time I buy a bass or anything significant, I will request it not be sent through the post office. So far we've paid $181 to ship the bass and it's taking almost three weeks thus far and no one has a clue where it is. I just know it's not where it supposed to be.

That really sucks. So sorry.

There's always this one from Philadelphia Luthier
Bass guitar bridges

Great bridge, makes the original look/feel wimpy...never had a problem intonating. The claw’s a little Flintstones so I got one from Scott..

There's another supposedly american made bridge, which is sold in several places, for like $150.

And I dunno if it fits, but its probably worth contact Hipshot about whatever they supplied Mike Lull with, for his birds.
Still waiting to hear from Epi. Even if they are willing to send me bolt and nut or the whole new bridge, it will not solve intonation problem. It will definitely improve visual aspect of what I have now though.
For the time being I just use the one I have with saddle all the way back. It sits tight so this should work for now. Or I can flip a saddle and move it slightly forward. If it holds tune I will keep it like this for now.
I am starting saving for the new one. Just have to choose something from all the options available.

I hate to pin a like on that post, but at least your updates are opening the eyes of others buying gear and the importance of a legitimate tracking system, which USPS really does not have. IIRC FedEx has one of the better tracking systems that updates daily or at every stop. I don't recall what UPS has.

I wonder how fast they could locate your package if you told them you were just informed that it might have an illegal hazardous substance in it?;)

Wow, what a disaster! The dress I was supposed to get to wear with the new video was similarly delayed - tracking said last Wednesday, then Friday, then Saturday - maybe today. But, a dress is not a big deal like a bass is.
FWIW the new Studio shipped from Memphis to Seattle in less than a week @ $135.00 via UPS, which both the seller and I though was outrageous, but considering your plight it seems reasonable.

geeez that sucks

Thanks to the collective wisdom of this thread my ‘bird has a new Hipshot supertone bridge. Took forever to get here but the install was super easy. The old 3 point on mine never inspired confidence as the saddles felt like they had a bit of give side to side if I dug in. Cannot believe the improvement just from a stability perspective. I think she looks and sounds better too.

Thanks again. Pics for posterity.

Very good point you make about providing some insight for other buyers and sellers here. I have had the least trouble with UPS shipping and tracking. The Postal Service and FedEx both can have their days changed more frequently than UPS, in my experience. UPS has pretty accurate and up to date tracking. I don't recall UPS telling me something was going to arrive on one day and it ended up not arriving. Possibly it's happened once. The post office is another matter entirely.

I guess I could tell them that there's been a slip up on my part and we forgot to declare that Plutonium 239--it's not much but I thought I should mention it to the post office now.
