I mentioned this one a week or so back, that's one strange Non Reverse, note the knobs, size/shape of the PG and neck inlays. If it's a Gibson it's highly modified, and I'm pretty sure it went to Leon W. of Linnert Skinnert.

Yep - $hipping is up. Instead of getting cheaper because everything is being shipped these days - it's putting such a load on shippers that they are raising their fees. Not to mention that a certain person who shall be unnamed is in the process of destroying the US postal service. Add to that, eBay and Reverb sales are now taxed across the board (CA used to be able to buy from other states w/o paying their sales tax) Makes everything cost more coming and going.

Just shipped a bass (no case) from Illinois to California...$50 using Reverb. I don’t get how it can cost over $75 to ship a bass in a case. Shouldn’t be over $100 even if you have to buy a box (which is just poor planning if you do IMO). $150 for shipping w/in the CONUSA is robbery

Mauve and teal were thee colours of the '80s - Joni rocked them then - I love this document! All the players were young and in their prime! What it must have been like to be in the audience that summer evening! At 32:49 they play Amelia (Earhart) the famous woman pilot. When I was in grade-school I read a book about her. My dad was a pilot in WWII so I had an affinity for flying.

That version of Coyote is awesome. Check out Jaco’s ACC. Must have been an amazing night. But I think Joni was becoming a bit annoyed with Jaco.

A bit of sparkle in ghost pepper. Black Thunderbird scratch plate and you are done. It is the perfect red Thunderbird, maybe even better than the Katbird red Cataldo that was around a while ago.

I've just been looking for a string nut for my new "project", as it doesn't appear to have one, and I've discovered something I was unaware of.
The nut width on my Epiphone Thunderbird IV is about 1 11/16", give or take (1.73" according to Google searches). The Project (really need a new name for that... ) is an Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro, apparently, which is listed as having a 1.5" nut width.

Is this:
A) accurate?
B) the same as Gibson Thunderbirds?

I do like that suggestion! Would that make it a Ghostbird?

With the black pickguard you're envisioning, that leads me down the path to two more questions...

1) black hardware, or nickel/chrome? I'm kinda leaning towards nickel, with matching pickup covers & rings...

2) Thunderbird emblem on pickguard - white, or matching red? Or maybe, silver? To match the hardware & paint sparkles?

The red wine Burst looks nice if you have a really interesting grain to show off. Most mahogany isn't going to be all that interesting grain wise, so I'd probably lean more to the Ghost Pepper color.

Also, just another personal preference thing - I have several basses with very interesting wood grain that have a satin or non gloss finish and to be honest, I think they would look better in high gloss. For example, here's a pic of my Warwick Vampyre in transparent satin blood red over quilted maple...

Looks nice, but I think the quilted grain would pop more under gloss.

My Pedulla that I just recently sold was vintage cherry burst over flame maple, you can see how much more the grain pops under gloss...

Even the relatively boring swamp ash grain on my Fender Jazz comes alive with a gloss finish...

Just some food for thought as you look at finish types and colors and wood grains.

I agree, the gloss definitely gives more pop to the woodgrain. And what it looks like under the white is a concern, both because of the rumor that manufacturers use the pretty wood for natural & see through factory finishes, not the opaque ones, and because even if it does look pretty good, like my Pro V, would it really be that great under paint?
