What I found with the finish on my 2013 EB is that it polishes over time. It was satin, but now it's shinier than that, with an amazing burnished quality. That works well with a burst finish, but maybe not so well with PB.

I'm a big fan of that look. I like shiny finishes also but a satin finish feels nice and gets buffed areas where you interface with it. To me that makes the factory finish personalized/unique.

Side by side, to me JJ 6550s *look* just as physically rugged as GE 6550A (not stingy with the mica spacers), and better than the Sovtek 6550WE that came in my SVT-CL (and are still in there).

What failure mode do you think is most likely with the JJs in an SVT?

not as much of a failure issue as one of a different vacuum spec affecting tone imo..

Just info:
I haven't heard the JJ 6550s yet, but JJ EL34II in a Traynor YBA-300 ("ultralinear" output) is really, really wonderful. Sorry for the unscientific verbiage. I bought EL34II because their EL34L was out of stock, but I like them so much I'll stick with them.

If that's true then it's an unfortunate problem (I presume they're finding it almost impossible to resolve).
If you don't mind, of course I want to ask which of the current manufactures' power tubes (6550 and KT88) might be better in this regard, in your opinion.

I feel lucky to be so happy with EL34II. And they *fit*, physically, in the YBA-300. The above tubes won't.

This went over my head. It's unfathomable, and at least 20,000 leagues out of mine. I might cave to the pressure, or go straight to hull. Then again, I need to keep current, and not just go with the flow.
