Folded horns were incredible. My rig in the early to late 80s included an 8-10 and a 4-12 folded horn that would have sound guys screaming about shaking walls in every venue it graced.

These Risson cabinets powered by a biamped GK800RB were incredible. The 8-10 had 6 CTS and 2 Altec speakers (isolated pairs like Ampeg). All alone, it sounded monstrous, but articulate as well. Then that 4-12 brought so much low end that it really did overpower dual Marshall stacks if I turned it up too much. I was young and inexperienced, so I was surprised that the 8-10 was so loud with only a 100 watt feed (while the 4-12 got 300 watts), so I felt like I needed to make sure it was always turned up really high so it could be heard. :D
And how’s your tinnitus? Probably as bad as mine. The ignorance of youth.

Old Bass Day.

Lookin' a little crazy!! :woot:

I think it interesting to note how high Mr. JAE wears that Bird and how it hangs on him, he's barely touching it and it's not living up to it's reputation.
It’s because he makes full use of the bass’s body as a forearm rest for his right hand which in turn keeps the headstock up and also frees his fingers up for typewriter plucking. The trade off is he is on the verge of looking like a bow tie player. Somehow when the Ox does it, it looks cool. Happy Valentine’s bird brains.

It's a good thing we can communicate by typing because unless I can see their lips clearly, I can't hear (understand) half of what people say when they're talking to me. It was worth it.

In this time of (most)everyone wearing masks-which do muffle voices to some degree, the fact that I use(d) lip reading to enhance my ability to hear/understand people is severely compromised. Then when I ask them to speak up a little, they yell. Even though they can clearly see I'm old(er) and I tell them my hearing is less than perfect. There seems to be no middle ground. Oh, well. I'm retired, I have time to have them repeat crap. Don't really care how "busy" they might be.
