Thunderbird Club

Well...Did a gig tonight at an American Legion. We've been there b4 and they generally like us. However. The weather forecast for tonite was heavy rain, thunder, lotta wind(luckily for us after load-in). Crowd(?) was sparse at best. Captive for awhile as the rain was pretty much horizontal. Many people stayed home and watched pasture pool on TV. Woulda played the Thunderbird 'cept it's still in the shop. I'll prolly get it back on the 16th since we have a gig on the 15th.:banghead:

thing just rips it up.....crappy background noise and we were told to play "unplugged" but you get the idea....playing (and singing) at ultra low volume is not as easy as it sounds sometimes....LOVE this bass..

Quietest "Crazy Train" ever. And yer right. It is tough to play quiet and still give 'life' to the song. It ain't like a BOSE Wave radio ya can turn down.

You need to move to Kentucky. We have real hardware stores (where you can hang out), and you get to keep more of what your earned, (I could play through your Mesa), the weather is worse.
Funny you should mention that. For years we had a mom and pop hardware store near our house in Kentucky (Cresent Springs Hardware) and then a HD opened up a few blocks from there. Everyone just assumed the mom and pop would go out of business. Turns out their business actually increased. Most people would stop there first because the help was so good, and then only go to HD if the mom and pop didn't have what they needed.

I'll never forget the owners daughter that worked there, "Big Red" was her nickname. A 6 foot tall 200 pound Kentucky Amazon with bright red hair and covered in freckles. It didn't matter if you were going in for a lawnmower sparkplug, a sump pump float switch or a Delta faucet O ring, she knew exactly what you needed and where it was. Just try that at Home Depot or Lowes.

I've played dinner engagements and other low volume venues in the past. You're right, it's much harder to EQ and play at low volumes. If your Greco is anything like mine it would further compound the issue. I find that my Greco volume setting at about 2 or 3 is pretty much equal to a Gibby or Eppi volume setting of around 8 or 9. Challenging to say the least. But you guys sounded great quietly belting out that Crazy Train.

Not just you. Unless you get one of the old timer part-time guys who have hung up their tool belt, you’re on your own at HD. Since they’re mostly self serve checkout, you never talk to an employee. And the one by us has a lot of shoplifters. Walk in, open the package, put it in a pocket walk out. I’ve seen it told an employee and they shrig their shoulders.

True HD story. About two years ago, there was a sale price on a Honda Mower. I looked on line at my local HD, there were supposed to be 5 in stock. Went in to get one, salesman has to go to back and get it, we already rang up the purchase on my CC.

He is gone for over a 1/2 hr. Comes back, and it's not in stock, even though his computer says 5 are in stock. Then tells me for my patience, they will sell me the next model up for the same money. It was electric start. So I say OK.

But guess what, that model isn't in stock either. And will be two more weeks to get it in. I almost melted down. Cussed the guy a little, got a refund, went 7 blocks down the freeway to Northern Tools and bought the one I wanted for the same price. And they had 4 in stock.

Long a fave! I remember when this came out, almost NONE of my friends were listening to it. It might have been depressing, but I'd just listen to the song again. I still love this band. Early B52s and REM put Georgia back up the musical rankings.
Back in the 80s, I think there were a number of bands that most people didn't understand until they had a hit. And probably still didn't understand but claimed that they were longtime fans. B52s and Devo leap to mind.

Then there were those other bands that never had a hit and so never gained those instant longtime fans.

Guitarist friend gave me a pretty good deal on this. Dusty, corroded screw heads, not well set up at all. Sat in a closet for some time. Knobs are missing because I didn't like the ones he swapped in for the originals.

It plays well, and sounds great!

You'll need some black knobs to offset the black. :smug:
