Thunderbird Club

Loved this song! But, Gibson bass fun? Do my eyes deceive me? Isn’t that a Ric in his hands? Oops. Never mind. The photo at the head of the video shows a Ric, but in the actual video it’s an EBO. But it sure sounds like a Ric on the studio recording. I’m so confused.:dead:

I thought that was a pretty cool clip, not dubbed, a somewhat rare live recording of the song - as pop goes it's actually a pretty well constructed song, perhaps not for @Miles_ONeal though!

It was power pop of the most memorable kind. I dug it! I was going into 7th grade at the time when the adolescent bloom was beginning! Oh yes! @MCF ....All the girls loved that song at my junior high school!

8th grade for me. Found my 49 year old copy. My girlfriend loved it. And there was a scratch and sniff sticker on the wrapper that smelled like raspberries. I kept the sticker and put it on the cover, but it fell off somewhere along the line. I don’t think I’ve played it since then.

I'm pretty certain I'm in the minority on this, but I've never liked GL's tone(ducks the not-so-fresh produce). I'll bet he'd've sounded better on a 'Bird.
You are free to dislike Geddy's tone. You just can't hold that opinion while in Canada... ;)

Geddy himself (I posted a quote and a link to the article a few pages back*) has said that he now understands why Pete Way liked Thunderbirds and that had he known then what he knows now...

* The usual disclaimer on a few pages back

I saw Rush so many times early on, I loved Geddy's tone and was quite the fanboi - the first good bass I bought upon H.S. graduation was a black 4001, no accident, I wanted to sound like Geddy - but let's be very clear, I could never, ever play with his skill, usually after seeing them I'd be a bit depressed about my playing, he's an incredible talent and has over the years contributed to many worthwhile causes - Thunderbird or not, he's the real deal.

Never been a Rush fan. Can't get past Geddys voice.
That said, credit where credit is due - the man is an absolute bass monster, he plays as good as he did 30 years ago and during that time has probably lost more talent than I'll ever have. Off stage he seems to be a stand up guy as well (rare for super star rock artists). The Rush hits over the years are undeniably some of the most iconic songs of their times and the three person band fills air space as good as any tight five piece band. Rush should be one of the top 25 bands in rock and roll history. Just not my personal cup of tea.

That opinion is well balanced, thoughtful, well reasoned, and acknowledges that there is a diversity of opinion. Is that allowed on the internet?

Purple silks have a special significance to some of us...

I'm sure I've said it before, but I can't look at that gif without getting a smile on my face, just so sweet and wholesome and innocent looking. For me, It just washes away all the crap and strife and division and politics and says be what ever you want to be in life, but be happy. Cheers to the Princess Club and their delicate little fingers!

Everyone has one... an opinion that is (among other things) ;) Even though I don't own a single Rush recording, and have never seen them live - GL's a certified monster; musician, bass-player, performer. He could play any bass and he would kill. I like his tone - it's defined/articulate and forward in the mix, which he was a pioneer of along with Chris Squire.

I've always loved "power trio's', from Cream forward - these guys got better/rock harder when the got older... At 5:09 they break into a very sinister "Mr Bungle" section.
