Here’s a session where I tuned the whole bass to D. When I’ve played it live with the artist I just quickly drop my E string down

Yeah, as previously mentioned, space is often at a premium, so no second bass(what's on second). And because we rarely work from a set list for more than 3 songs/set, I ain't gots time to retune after a song is called. I really need to use my LPB2/5er more, but when ya have a 67 NR, why play anything else?I used to have a Hipshot dropper thing on one of my basses, but now I prefer to have a bass tuned DGCF in the studio. There’s a few young hotshots in Nashville that keep all their basses tuned to C# if they don’t like 5 string basses (I sold all of mine years ago). The theory being that a bass doesn’t typically need to go any lower or higher than that anyway. Whatever works, I reckon
if I have to drop to the D on the fly, it only takes a second to do it the old fashioned way
What a sweet looking bass! The one I’m likely getting is typical sunburst. Would love a white one at some point

Love the Teiscobird! Our last TSC's rehearsal before our re-immigrant post-lockdown outdoor show (RIPLDOS)is tomorrow. I will bring my Coral Deluxe Bass to A/B it against my Teiscobird. One go-through of the set on one >[break]< and a second go-through on the other. The one that feels/sounds the best tomorrow wins. I hate to do this as I love them both dearly... but "best foot forward" and all...

Same club, different night - too far from my drummer... it is a weird L-shaped stage w/no monitors on the stage right of drummer so we had to cramp together. I think it was because the bass amp was over there. (shared amp)

Is there a chance some other electric circuit(lights, doors, etc.)is being turned on toward the end of services? And his acoustic is receiving a 'signal'?Weird situation. Our acoustic guitar player at began having heavy distortion after some playing at the very end both last week and this week. Sounds almost like a shredded cone it sounds so bad. He and the sound guy checked things after last week and didn't find anything. Today is was fine till the last song and started in again. Last week all links were checked and bypassed to see if something in the signal chain was the problem. Our sound guy talked to a sound guy at a mega, mega church and he said it could be that an active DI is needed and might resolve it. I won't say what he thought it would do as I'm not sure I would get it right, but there was something about it being active and the way the signal was processed and maybe leveled out some. Something like that. Anyone ever run into something like that?
I played a Thunderbird (white VP) today, with Roto flats. Fantastic tone! Likely will leave them on this VP and rounds on the other.
It always goes back to emissions.Probably because I burp and fart all the time...
Yes, but that it was such a horrid distortion. Not sure what that might be, but worth checking into.Is there a chance some other electric circuit(lights, doors, etc.)is being turned on toward the end of services? And his acoustic is receiving a 'signal'?
My late friend’s brother asked me to look a 67(I think) NR Firebird from his collection. It had 3 P90s - and all the goodness of a 60’s Gibson. I estimated it at about $6K at the time and would have worked out a deal to buy it if it was a bass. Just couldn’t justify spending that much on a guitar.Good evening Thunderbird loving sisters and brothers. I found this old photo and couldn't resist posting. I have been contemplating the new NR birds that are coming out, and saw this picture. Looks like Brian Jones has a 6 string NR? I am familiar with the Firebird, but not certain I have ever seen this instrument before. Wild suit, unusual guitar, but Brian was known for both. I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Very cool and unusual! The bridge and tailpiece look homemade with all the square edges.Well yesterday I bought myself THIS basket case.
View attachment 4278567 Which no matter how you slice it, is a genuine vintage sixties number. But I have no idea what brand or country of heritage. Also it's far from original.
View attachment 4278573The stems of those pots stick out a full inch and that mini toggle also never was part of its stock fittings.

So today I spend some time doing the old girl up.
View attachment 4278582Polished it up and removed decades of grime and dust, removed all the extra pots and switches in favor for a normal Master volume and tone set up and oiled the fingerboard.
View attachment 4278583Only four strings (That technically makes it a bass) because I didn't have a full set, everything works and it plays.
BUT a good instrument she certainly is NOT, what it does have going for itself is that it nails that garage band sound. You could use it in a white stripes tribute band.
It has a Soviet quality to it. Beats me if it is Soviet Russian, but it is even odder than '60s Japanese or Italian.Well yesterday I bought myself THIS basket case.

Good suggestion and a common source, but not this time. Though the distortion was so awful the battery was the first thing checked. I've literally never heard distortion like this. But thanks for the suggestion. You never know when you skip something--something even really obvious.Battery dying? Or maybe one of those newer acoustics that recharge, running low on power?![]()
Cool! The backside of the pickguard actually looked pretty clean from what I was expecting.Well yesterday I bought myself THIS basket case.
