Thunderbird Club

no affiliation... but a cool Explorer-style piezo (!) Gibson bass on the verb -

Gibson Rare Prototype Explorer Bass Early 1980's Red | Mike's Music | Reverb

I think that was actually a production model, Gibson did make a series of Piezo equipped basses.

Did you plug it in and if so, how did it sound compared to a regularly equipped normal P/U model?

You can see I did have it plugged in to Uwe's small amp, however I truly don't remember how that bass sounded - that day was a sensory/mental overload, I'd only just gotten off a 4 hour ride on the TGV from Paris to Frankfurt - later Uwe took myself and family out to dinner, nicest guy ever!

This one was likely a prototype, I should have kept it, it wasn't anything remarkable tone wise. I think this is the only surviving pic.

Interesting. I don’t know how Pinterest works. If you can find, it send me a link.

As far as I know, anyone can grab a pic from anywhere and post it on their 'page'. I think the site algorithm also grabs similar pics for a general 'page'. I regularly see my stuff pop up on general Pinterest pages and many are from tb. You can construct your own page (filled with pics from anywhere) or just type in a search/subject and it will compose a page of (whatever) for you. Once you visit the site, you get sometimes daily emails.

here's an example -

What's up with taking a Music Man and ripping the whole lower third off of it?

@MCF
I ran across a Candy Apple Red Eppi Limited Edition Thunderbird the other day. I’ve been sitting on it for about a week now trying to decide if I want to buy it, but to be honest its a bit over priced and I don’t feel like dicking around with the seller to lower the price (call me lazy). IIRC you mentioned that you were trying to locate a red one, if so PM me and I’ll send you the owners contact info.
