Thunderbird Club

Some folks hate on Skynyrd because they were/are good ol' boys. I'll tell you what... I'd rather hang with some good ol' boys any day of the week than snooty uptight types.

And last night, I did just that driving over an hour each way to hangout with the fine members of Pröwess from NC. They're in town for 3 nights of shows and tonight I'll be rocking and hanging with them after their set at The World Famous Machine Shop. Just a 20 minute drive tonight. :)

These are my people!

Hey, classic rock isn't dead after all!

Give them a listen. You can find them on streaming services and of course YouTube if you want to see them in action.

Doin' some Skynyrd! Cool video. Awesome guys!

What their originals sound like.

Some fine acting right here and no joke, award winning video shot on my buddy John's farm and all around mid-Michigan.

There is hope for music!

Maybe I'll get a chance to catch them in the act one day.

I know it's a running joke with it being the most requested rock song ever, but I can sure think of an almost endless list of songs I would rather not hear other than Freebird.

Brown Eyes Girl is pretty high on the list of songs I can live without.

Looks like a fun crowd!

I think I figured out what I did wrong.

I quickly did these with the TCE Helix which I tried to match my Phase 90 (which sounds better), which I didn't bring home after use. May be of not interest, but maybe will help explain a little about why I love my phaser.

Nothing fancy at all. Just quick run through of samples without and with the Helix. Ignore the playing and the sting noise. My ipad is at my feet and closer to me than the the amp and cab (Ampeg V4BH and Fender 115). Using the '06 Thunderbird with SIT Power Steels. Fingers except the last sample which is with pick. The third one is just noodling.
Not the best examples of a phaser or low tech recording, but it is what it is.

I’m not big on pedals for bass but those clips sounded pretty good. The Helix was relatively subtle but added warmth and presence and a fuller sound with a hint of swirling reverb. BTW - nice playing.

So how much is a 2000's era Line6 Spider II amp still worth, well I found out.

Because the guy running the rehearsal space where my band is honing their craft pushed this one in my arms and said "Take it."

I never refuse a freebee, I only needed to replace the ring around the input jack to get it back into working order. Of course Line6 is old tech and not really all that good at getting nice tones except for Nu-Metal tones, it's still fun.
Good score! If you don’t use it, pass it on to a young player that needs an amp.

That’s pretty sweet! How’s it play?

It is! It took a bit of work to set up and as expected the neck is a little wonky but frets are in VGC for a 50+ yr old bass. I was able to (so far) get playable action w/a couple buzz-spots to address today. Vintage Vox-looking singles are hot and in general it has a good tone that favors the bassy end of the spectrum. Sounds good with a pic/palm-muting.

Excellent! Never heard of them before but I really like their sound. Looks like the live concerts are an experience to remember.

Amen!

Muskrat Love being waaay up that list.
I’ll second that and also add McArthur Park (that cake recipe in the rain song) there are very few songs that just grate on my nerves but we’ve named a lot of them.

So tell us more about the finish, I’ve never seen anything like it. The back side almost looks like a lace undergarment.
