Thunderbird Club

That's a cool finish!

It was done by a Czech woman artist - I've had my eye on the Jolana Kolorbas (came in a really nice blue) but when I saw that artwork I couldn't resist!

So tell us more about the finish, I’ve never seen anything like it. The back side almost looks like a lace undergarment.

It's done with those gold/silver metallic paint pens found in art-stores and some office-supply stores. The larger silver parts may have been brushed-on with aluminum roofing paint. I'm gong to visit Blicks art store today and buy a few pens as there is some repair to do on the artwork. It's all free-hand ... the artist has a really good eye for composition and the subtle blue accents really land it.

It is! It took a bit of work to set up and as expected the neck is a little wonky but frets are in VGC for a 50+ yr old bass. I was able to (so far) get playable action w/a couple buzz-spots to address today. Vintage Vox-looking singles are hot and in general it has a good tone that favors the bassy end of the spectrum. Sounds good with a pic/palm-muting.
Well now it’s in the right hands to make it a playable instrument.:D

Jethro Tull was what I listened to most in my teens.

I wonder what's up with his pickguard in that video. It's got to be a '60s Thunderbird, since that video was probably made in the early '70s sometime.
No idea what's up with the pickguard. I was wondering the same thing, which initially made me question it being a Gibson. But yes, the video says 1970.

At 6:34 there is a relatively close shot of it. The pg is either replaced black or painted black with what looks like a white piece of paper (set-list?, notes?) stuck on it.

I know it's a running joke with it being the most requested rock song ever, but I can sure think of an almost endless list of songs I would rather not hear other than Freebird.

Stairway to Heaven must be #2... :) I'd rather listen to this -

I would have said lacy bra and panties, but well...........Ya know

Brown Eyes Girl is pretty high on the list of songs I can live without.
I get that there are a ship(sp?) load of songs we could live without. However. Our band doesn't play "shows". We play for our 55+y/o crowd's enjoyment. If they request something and we know it, we play it. And for the 3 +/- minutes it takes for me to sing "Mustang Sally", we don't have to give it a lotta thought(no, we're not on automatic pilot-we 'make it our own'). "Wanna hear "Free Bird?" No problem. Puts us about 5 minutes closer to the end of the night. "Brown Eyed Girl"? Packs the dance floor. Keeps the crowd happy. AND THEY WANT US BACK and tell management. And we have fun, too. I've discovered I actually enjoy contributing to people having a good time!
We were booked every every weekend last year-'til COVID-lost 65 gigs. The places we play(ed) are slooowly coming back, but at reduced $. They're not making as much so they're not paying as much.
I s'pose you could consider this a bit of a rant, but at 76, IDK how much longer I'll be able to play so I'm gonna do it while I still can.
Sure as hell don't hafta learn this week's 'flash in the pan' overproduced P.O.S., 2 chord, 5 note melody "hit"-that no one will remember in a month.
Oh. I useta do MacArthur Park.
