Thunderbird Club

At lunch I quickly recorded the Helix and Phase 90. This was with the white VP with new Boomers. On the recording the Helix sounds a little different but good. In person the 90 sounds better. Better being subjective.

With pick. Helix is first.

Fingers. Phase 90 first. In this one the Helix sounds too fast, which I didn't notice while playing. Not sure if it's just the recording via ipad or what.

In person you notice some extra depth and dementionality from the Phase 90 that the ipad recording doesn't capture. The real test is a live setting. At times some settings sound great at home but disappear live.

I'm gonna hafta try my 'El Cheapo' POS phaser again-just for S&G.

Did anyone else notice that for some odd reason the bass "turned into a lefty"?

It's weird that the editors reversed the scene. Got to wonder why?

Lol, I never have to search far to find the THUNDERBIRD Club!
I was just wondering if someone can tell me where to get the "mod bar" that you string through at the back-side of the three-point bridge?

And how's everybody??

I'm good, Roger. Good to see you're still around.

As for the mod bar... I'd think a man with your skill set could easily make one for himself with some round stock purchased from HD or Lowes. A hacksaw, a bench grinder or file and some drilling and you'd be good to go.

edit: Unless you're talking about the tailpiece claw? Then I'd say, talk to Scott.

Fun fact, at least for me. About 30 years ago I was working the door for a small club in Greenwich Village. For some reason there was a group of rock stars' kids there, including Sean Lennon. Afterwards, Mick Jones' kid invited me to hang with them back at his place. I don't think Sean came back, but damn was Mick's apartment on the Upper West Side gorgeous. He wasn't there. Really nice group of kids, though
Cool story.

Yeah, I thought that was odd on moving pictures film, or whatever it's called. Stills I get that happening. Proves you can't believe anything. It was probably a Les Paul until they doctored the film.;)

Cool short history of the Rickenbacker basses. I didn't know Lemmy originally put Thunderbird pickups in his Rics.

At 15:40 if this doesn't cue it up.

I was a Rick guy starting in 73..After I bought my Bicentennial 76 the 4001 didn’t really cut it for me..The Steinberger in the picture is #11 and was a demo at the NAMM show when it was first introduced.I was so impressed with the sound of the EMG pickups in the Steinberger that I put a set in the white Rick to get it closer to the Thunderbird/Steiny sound..The results were awesome..I still have the T-bird and the 73 modified Rick.I went with an 18 volt power supply..
Funny how the video shows all of the modifications that were done to the Basses regarding pickups. Thanks for the link.

I suppose that's a simple thing, yes. I've just been occupied and less is more now. Sounds a little lame, but I need a vacation... I'll probably just do it...

I’m going to Cali in June.
Come with….

I'm just up the coast, by June it will only be raining, gray and cold 6/7 days a week. Welcome mat is out for you guys. :)

Here’s the Pawn Shop scene where a 1979 Thunderbird is sold by a bass player that bought it in Nashville. I guess that doesn’t mean he’s from Nashville but maybe he is…

@dukeorock, do you know this guy?

I thought it was interesting that his "expert" said he had actually never seen a Thunderbird bass before. It wasn't in perfect shape either, extra unplugged hole in the body end for a strap pin and no bridge or pickup covers. Further, just seeing that bass laying on the counter with no block under the neck to keep the headstock from supporting weight made me cringe. I know it's rare but I would not have paid so much for that bass.

Completely agree with all points. That bass was a road warrior that was not lovingly maintained and should never have gotten the price paid. Their expert was far from an actual expert. He claimed it was all original and never checked the pots or pickups. He did give the tuners a look but that's not good enough, IMO.

Don’t try and make a mod bar unless you have a drill press. A power drill and vice clamp would be a minimum and even then a royal pita. Just buy one here…
