Thunderbird Club

yeah, they were also asking 19600.00 for this……

Alembic basses are listing at pretty much insane prices on both the new and used market. I paid about $4000 for one 10 years ago and just recently turned down an offer of $15,000 for it. I’d love to get a Cocobolo Stanley Clark short scale like the one in the picture but it ain’t gonna happen at $19,600 or even half of that.

Well........I just couldn't resist :banghead:

I'm gonna go out on a limb, and say this might cause a problem (even though it's just to the "remote switch" plug-in) :rollno:

Looks like I may need to buy more compressed air dusters :jawdrop:

An example of how NOT to remove the washers :cautious:

I like getting fun new (to me) things :)

does the head work?

Allegedly - but with a possible input or output problem. Sounded like maybe a bad jack, and was cheap enough that it'll make a good project if it's more than that.

But I haven't tried it yet, I heard something rolling around inside (one of the nuts for the retaining screws, apparently), so I figured I'd pull it apart & have a look at the insides.
I don't have my new speaker yet, that should give me some time to clean it up & check the rest of the wiring :)

When I was at UPS earlier, guy told me the full package for the amp head was 36 lbs. - this is without the packaging

...so, now my work-in-progress project has both of its main parts :smug:

:)
Nice! Mine was a little older and had the metal toggles for EQ and compression. Very versatile and underrated IMO because Peavey wasn't one of the "cool" manufactures. Mine sounded good with just about any cab I ever used. Loved it with my Peavey 215! There's a foot pedal that's handy for switching if needed. I never used it.

That’s my dream rig as of now. Been having a hard time finding that exact head. Mostly because I would want to pick it up and not have it shipped. Right now I’m looking for a 215D Black Widow equipped of course! Supposedly the 215D is the “deeper” better sounding of the 215’s.

That will sound epic when you get it all working properly. Gotta love old solid state lead sleds. Tubes have their place, but I'll take a Peavey like that one or an ACC stack over just about anything else. It must be a relic of being a teenager in the 1970s.

I wanted an Alembic a long time ago. Now? Not really. I'm happy with Thunderbirds and what they do.

Looks like a fun project! If the input/output jacks are anything like those slides they might just need a good cleaning to get working again.
Also, very clever of you to store washers in the carpet, a novel storage idea for a fix it person. You never know when you might need one, just pull out the vacuum cleaner, and presto, a washer for your next project!;)

A shop vac might be more what that needs first. Then compressed air. Where did that live, in a barn full of cats?

I have a couple and love them for recording work (which I’m really not doing any of any more). But not my favorite gigging bass, they have a tendency to be heavy, expensive to buy and even more expensive to fix, and magically grow legs and walk off the stage when you aren’t looking. Nope, if I were doing bar or club gigs or outdoor work I’d be strapping on a Tbird, most likely an Eppi. I’d save my Gibby birds (anniversary and 2015) as well as the Alembics for the studio and small clean safe and controlled indoor venues.

I grew up in Ohio. No way I would want an Ohio bass, let alone pay that much for one.

Yah it was funny the rest of the world using American names for their guitars but hey, we created R&R and were the ones buying them by the boat-load! Others (from Japan) include; Memphis, Toledo, Orlando, Miami, Ventura, Rodeo, Telstar, even National! There was even a T**** and a Lindell (aka Mike Pillow) - only relevant in contemporary context. 'Name' name brands, more generically American were Norma, Thomas, Marlin, Honey, Camaro and all the "---tone" names (Silvertone, Truetone, Maxitone etc) Producing thousands upon thousands of guitars then - coming up with a myriad of brand names was the shot-gun approach they used to marketing them in the US and the rest of the world. The same guitar could have a few different names on the hs depending on the distributer/US store buyer. (like 'St George' which were sold through Anthony George who had music stores in NY & CA)

Gorgeous, especially that top one. And both clearly indoor basses.
