Thunderbird Club

I've been thinking a lot lately about investing in one of these. I saw it pop up and came here to see if anyone (especially our queen or Scott) were on it. Sure enough. But I guess I should go ahead and discuss with my wife so when the opportunity does pop up...

'64s come up regularly on Reverb. There's one '64 II and a '76 on there now.

Sorry, I was in the wrong forum…getting confused with Epiphone as many of the same faces. I’d throw myself on my headstock but none are pointy.

We love the Epi's here too!

I went for “old barn door” on a couple of mine.

It's a form of craquelure. It was given that label (“old barn door”) because initially barns were coated with milk-paint* (which was thick) over and over again, which being exposed 360 days of the year through freezing cold and blistering heat, would 'pull apart' and create that "worn" look. It's frequently used in decorative arts and scenic painting to convincingly create an old worn look.

So here’s where the test mule (LocoMule) science project is at:

Yes that’s an SG/EB pickup at the neck/Rick position. Cause why not

By itself, glorious beautiful, but thick tone. Not like a mudbucker though

With a touch of bridge, adds mids and clarity, but not a ton

In cancellation, it’s one of the weirdest pissed of bridge plucked heavy sound. Very cool, not a lot of output or low end

that middle position. With a little neck rolled in, it’s aggressive but smooth. By itself? It’s angry AF. I like it

Body shape is reminiscent of my '68 Coral Deluxe Bass and Silvertone 1443 Hornet (both Dano made)

Also the more recent retro Ibanez Talman, which references the Dano's -

For me…
Traditional Reverse body style
Raised center section on the front only, full body and belly contour on the back (Spector/Warwick style)
Set neck or Neck through
3 pickups
Mudbucker at the neck under a TB cover, Tbird pups at the center and bridge positions all with split coil capability
Gold or Nickel hardware
Standard Tbird pickguard in black with gold or chrome logo to match the hardware
Visible wood grain stains in blonde, blue, Mary Kay, lava burst, ghost burst; solid colors to match original 1960’s offerings.

Body style: NR

Body type: flat

Construction: Either

Number of pickups: Always liked 2. The single Bird humbucker in the middle position of the LocoMule is making me question that

Type of pickup: thunderbird traditional

Hardware color: chrome.

Guard: none

Colour: Gloss black or a blueberry type blue. That Gun metal suggestion though.... oh my
