Me too - it gives you much more freedom to mute, partial mute and/or not mute during the same song. It's part of my criteria for considering the sonic worth of any bass I play - it's got to sound good using a pick & palm-muting. And yes, the bridge will either have a friendly interface with your right hand... or not. I can deal with both, but I definitely prefer a smooth surface compared to a scratchy one. (saddle adjustment set-screws)
It works with a cover as well somehow. I also mute with the fretting hand at times, depending. There are endless ways to be expressive.

Agreed. And for some reason I have been able to use the technique with my '91 4003 too. I didn't think about it until I started to read comments that it's impossible to do that with the stock bridge. Mine is stock. It has the tail lift but...I said it was stock! :D

This is how Rickenbacker "addressed" bridge-plate tail-lift in the late '80s... I had one in Fireglo and when I saw the two wood-screws through the bridge I thought someone did a crude DIY on it. :eyebrow: These (4004) were the ones with the tr access at the neck heal, so they had a 2-piece pg for access.

I always liked Bread, David Gates wrote a lot of great tunes, Larry Knechtel the great session player was the bassist. He played bass on half the songs on the first Doors album and his first instrument was keyboards.

There's a thread his son started in "Bassists"

See - that's what I'm talking about. Slag some band you don't like and the person you are conversing with likes that band. I ran into that slagging Magma, mostly/specifically this vid with Magma drummer/founder Christian Vander. I do enjoy it, just possibly differently than a die-hard fan. What can I saw, he's French.

My MIJ copy was faithfully made with the same flaw. And I solved the problem the same way, but with screws that match:

I think it is important to not take anything too seriously.

There are bands I like and ones that I don't care for. But for humour purposes, all are fair game. Most of you know that I am a big Rush fan, but that doesn't stop me from poking fun at Geddy's vocals. I like a bunch of Neil Young songs although I do not like him as a person and don't like his singing. I will often poke fun at the pop tarts, but I do enjoy a bunch of Katy Perry, Brittney Spears, and Taylor Swift because a good song is a good song no matter who wrote and performed it. We shouldn't take any of the poking of fun at artists we like or dislike too seriously.

I like Ted Nugent, but I still think he might be bat shizzle crazy these days. An interesting point to note, although clearly on opposite sides of the political spectrum, Tom Morello and Ted Nugent are friends.

It is possible to have friends you disagree with. Too bad the press and politicians want to convince you otherwise. I have a friend I’ve been calling a pinko for almost 40 years. Still friends.

I think I might appreciate him more on drums.

I have an '85 4003FL that came stock like that, funny but I've owned probably thirty Rics over the years and never had serious tail lift on any. I have a '79 4001 right now I've had for years with 105 Rotos and it's lifted maybe 1/16ths on an inch.

You can barely see the screws in this picture of the '85 4003FL:

Incidentally, that photo you put in is of an early 4003. They turned the truss rods around and put big nuts of them for three or 4 years after they started making 4003's and made two piece pickguards so you could access them. It was actually quite an improvement.
