sometimes wonder how many folks that bought these old Birds brand new are still around..
Well we can definately scratch one off thanks to Keith Moon....
"One accidentally destroyed by Keith Moon while exiting stage at Forest Hills in July 1971, breaking the neck off; and John subsequently smashed it to pieces."

Oh to have a few of those pieces...... I'm thinking parts.

Had the same experience at a Chicago concert in Atlanta. And we were sitting right in front of subs. I've played many of those bass lines, so I heard 'em in my head. Not through the speakers.
I saw them in a Fox Theatre. The sound wasn’t awful. That was right before the bassist who had been with them for a long time moved on.

Poopie sound quality. But played just like the live album. Some Fenderbird action, assuming the one Entwistle gave Leon. Nice Firebird as well. Great shots of Billy Powell--one phenomenal piano player. I can't think of a time when he didn't play what was on the record note for note without mistake. Incredible.

That’s cool. You’re actually pushing me toward going done a Skynyrd rabbit hole.

a lesson in less is more….doesn’t need anything else from the bass….
people talk JJ Cale but this version pummels his imho..

Likely given to Peter Cook to build a 7enderbird.

By all rights, this song should be too busy with this many virtuosos going nuts on it, but they all know what they're doing and it works. And Leon is still one of the all-time greats. Dang it.

Well said.
I like Cale. Kind of has his own quirky style. But you're right. I think others often do his songs very well.

Talk about cover of a great song. Listen to this with some good speakers or buds. Allen Collins simply tears it up. I sometime get chills during the second solo. The whole band is just tight. Love the drums as well. As much as I love Cream. Skynyrd kills it. (More rabbit hole for Marshall!)

After all these years, I'm still amazed when I listen to a studio or their live album with good buds and carefully pick our what each one is doing. Amazing and musical. With all that going on, they really knew how to not step all over each other. Not bad for some poor kids who chased the dream.

All that time in Hell House paid off. Of course, that only worked because they were awesome musicians to begin with. And they definitely gelled!

I won't talk about why I missed that concert, but I still kick myself to this day. Check out the alternate take on the 20th Anniversary Deluxe edition. Ronnie introduces it by talking about the time he, Allen, and Gary collected Coke bottles to go down to Miami and catch the group he considered the greatest ever in concert. It's not as stellar in a couple of places, but they still tear it up. And Ronnie's outro! :roflmao:

Leon has more top end here than I'm used to hearing in a lot of his playing (including the two concerts I went to).
