this makes no sense. if you're good enough and the band you're in is good enough and you develop a following the good paying jobs will come. that's the way it's always been and it's not going to change. like any other trade, if your skills are no longer in demand you're not going to get paid.
No, I'm not offended. I thought their were guidelines about making religious and political posts on this forum. As in don't do it.
I think I just misunderstood exactly what you were trying to say.
If I understand the TB guidelines correctly, it's perfectly fine to mention on TB that someone is a minister or plays bass for spiritual reasons, but it is *NOT* okay to advocate any particular religion on TB or discuss details of any particular religious beliefs or non-beliefs on TB.
I'm not saying I'm right about that. I'm just saying that it's my understanding of the guidelines.

Back in the day, there were gigs that paid "in exposure" My reply was. 'Exposure is what I die from when I don't pay my rent'.
I saw that, isn't that from Walsh on the "Live From Darryl's House" episode (spectacular episode, btw)? Walsh also talked about young players just starting out, that the most important thing was to start playing out in front of people as soon as possible, to get started on their obligatory "10,000 hours" journey. And that as beginners they would have to work hard just to get up to a level where they suck. Which by default means playing virtually for free, or for very little until they're good enough to be worth more.

It would be difficult to expect weekend warriors/hobbiests to not play for whatever $ they can get.
They sometimes work for beer.
Had s local place open at small ski hill about 2 years ago.
I sometimes gig with a 3 or 5 piece jazz combo. The piano player sold them the band if we’d play for dinner.
Not play during dinner— the food was the pay. We passed. They’ve had entertainment pretty steady on weekends since then. Sometimes duos or singles,
but often young bands. Decent sounding and many friends.

Well, he did mention God three times. He asks how is it possible to charge God to play bass in church, mentions how God has blessed him with the talent to play bass, and how God has blessed him and his family in other unspecified ways.
What's the difference between these type of religious posts and if I make a post talking about how I play for free at anti-Trump rallies, Black Lives Matter protests, and Pro-Choice events? And then go into detail about why I choose to do these things. I'm not advocating these things, mind you. I'm just mentioning that I take part in them on a regular basis.
Since I'm not a mod, I am not in a position to answer those questions. If a mod feels inclined, I'm sure he or she will chime in. If they don't chime in, then I would interpret that as everything that's been said in this thread thus far is okay with respect to TB rules. We have excellent mods on this forum, and they all do a great job in allowing open discussion, and chiming in when appropriate.
hilarious? sometimes, although at one couple's reception, there are almost no pics of the couple as everyone took pics of their buddies and things they thought were funny in a bunch of blurry pics, which didn't seem particularly funny to me. it left them with no pics they could frame of the reception, although had they wanted to share on social media for a laugh - not every bride and groom's desire, they might have been all set.
up until recently the entire idea of having pics of your wedding wasn't to be funny - that's part of the change of using amateur photographers or wanting to show stuff that stands out on social media. yes, a pic of too little kids asleep in a chair at the reception make people go "awwww" and blurry pics of the bride tripping may make people laugh. my relative and his wife really did do it to save money, as have others i've known, and their photos in frames of the wedding tend to be less sharp and clear, and often not well lit.
btw, on dpreview there are lots of guys who are guilted by friends or relatives wanting to save money into doing wedding pics although they have neither of the experience with people photography nor the equipment to do a good job. sometimes the bride and groom are not happy about the pics despite the fact they were warned in advance, usually repeatedly.
