Refinish?

Black covers and knobs might be just the ticket. Here's my similar bass.

Tb,

Recently I received this bass and absolutely love the build qaulity, tone, and playability. I am finding myself feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the Maple and am thinking of having the bass refinished. What do you guys think?

To my eye, black knobs and black pickup covers would be be just enough contrast to look great.

Let me ask you this, something must have made you want to buy the bass, right? At the time you purchased it, you probably loved the way it looked. Why the change of heart? It is stunning the way it is. It needs nothing but you to play it and love what you have. If that can't be done then sell it to me, I would gladly love every ounce of its beautiful maple goodness!!

I love natural wood all of my basses and even my cabs and rack box are natural, that being said that bass is a little much, I'd change out the pickup covers and knobs to black and loose the ramp all together, that would give it some balance

Krylon has some nice colors available in the paint department of the home stores.

Be sure to mask the pickups and remove the tuners and bridge before painting.

Do a test on the back of the bass to make sure the spray paint doesn't lift the original finish.

I like the all maple look and would not change it though.

Yes, too much maple. I agree with the comments about a darker fingerboard. Refinishing the body would work, too. At the very least, I might move to gold hardware - I'm not a huge fan of gold, but the black bridge on that bass is a bit of an eyesore.

Agreed. Don't get me wrong. It's a good looking bass I would be proud to own. But I totally see where the OP is coming from.

Is there any way the builder himself might do the refin?

Possibly but I am in Socal with Nordstrand, Hanewinckel, and Watson all within an hour of me. I would likely have one of them do it if I decide to move forward.

Some black hardware could look good, as some folks have said. On the other hand, it's already a good looking instrument. So beyond those simple sorts of modifications, well ... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
