A little Beatle-esque thing I've been working on lately. I even did scratch vocals. It's about 2/3 complete and have to figure out an ending.
I just re-recorded the chorus of the first song I ever wrote and recorded way back in 1986. I'm using the same synth and drum machine I used back then, but this time I laid it down on a 16-track digital recorder instead of a 4-track cassette recorder. The name of the song is "Lovely As She."
This track I made just for the fun of it, in the course of a couple of hours.
It's a sort of psychedelic somewhat jazzy instrumental piece, pretty far from my usual style, and it consist of a backing tack programmed using Reason 5, composed of drums, synth and bells, and then I recorded a fully improvised electric guitar track, and then a likewise fully improvised bass one, on top of it :
This one is quite jazzy as well, and consist of a loop taken from an improvised recording I made, consisting of acoustic guitar and percussion, then piano, trumpet and some additional percussion, programmed using Reason 5, added on top of that, and finally recording an improvised bass as well as an improvised electric guitar track on top of that, I clipped together a real music video for it
The lyrics are in Danish though, but I guarantee they are as wacky as they sound

And now for something completely different, a "black noise"? track, with the drums programmed using Reason 5, then improvised acoustic guitar, with a lot of high gain VST distortion applied to it, improvised bass, and finally vocals, recorded on top of it. I had a sore throat a week after I recorded those vocals. (The video image is a photo of my conceptual art piece "Piece #911"):

There's a guy I follow on some electronic guitar forums goes by the handle "Alien Spore Bomb" - sounds to me stylistically similar, you might want to check him out:

Here's a track I wrote and recorded in 1987. This is the original, straight-up, raw, analog 4-track cassette recording - no added processing. It's titled "Certainly In Love With You."
I wrote and recorded this around 1990. I just produced this new recording of it. It's based on the Parliament "P-Funk" concepts of funky heroes and unfunky villains (you funkateers know what I'm talkin' 'bout!
). Also, by the time the '90s came around, a LOT of folks were fakin' the funk! So I conceived a mighty superhero of the funk - "BIG CAT (Defender of the Groove)":

practice, practice, practice. Working on my guitar chops lately, trying to learn ZZ Top's "Heard It On The X", coming along slowly. probably take another week to get the riff crisp and automatic enough to try singing over.

Well, I'm a session musician, I don't do gigs. I record some of my songs in my home studio to "sell" my work. In the past, business cards were used! It's like that.

My wife came in and asked me who that is. I told her it's that Mike St John who used to be with Paul Revere and the Raiders for a while. Then she needed to know what song and I obliged that it was Ten Years After from the Shhhhhh album.

Here's one I wrote and recorded over the weekend. It's still a work in progress as I need to get my wife to add keyboards next, and then some real drums. The bassline on the verses is an homage to a popular 80's song (can you guess what it is?)...

Let me set the stage for this one...
I had these CD's with drum tracks. Cool for practicing to. There was this one track that was like a group of 5 or so different samples. I decided to play to that. In order to practice on my multi track and in order to get out some of my different instruments. (none of which am I a master musician)
So here it is, listen to how the drum tracks go along here... It just gives you a sample, then moves on to the next. And I had to figure out how to string them all together some how.
BTW the drummer is bernard purdie!
