So ages ago I bought a fretless electric guitar off ebay and learned I couldn't play it worth a damn. Set it behind a chair in the living room and there it stayed until a month ago, I came across it and dragged it out. Having learned fretless bass in the interim seems to have made a world of difference. Don't get me wrong, my intontation's still pretty loose here, but give me a break, double stops on fretless guitar lolz. Anyway, here's a riff I came up with on it, through my Big Muff Deluxe and Pigtronix EP-1 Envelope Phaser - forgive the lousy phone recording, my recording pc rig is down awaiting a rewiring, got a medusa's head tangle under my desk lol...

Honestly the first time I saw a fretless six-string guitar, I thought, "Man, you could only effective play solos on that thing. Playing chords in tune would be darn near impossible!". You did well.
These were fun. This is a side project, a brainchild of some friends from undergrad who, unlike me, mostly don't write their own stuff.
An acoustic guitar led version of a classic Rage Against the Machine song. Once upon a time we were in a band together where I played this on upright, which I don't have anymore.
I played bass, drums, rap/sing lead, and used a iPad DJ app for the borrowed spoken word. Friends played acoustic and electric guitars and sang backups.
Another classic cover. Jimmy Cliff.
Friend singing. I'm playing bass and drums. We were deliberately not trying to have it be reggaeish, for some album cohesion, but did want to convey a similar swing.
Both were playing on a Reverend Thundergun through a GK head and Hartke cab.

Yeah, chords requiring two fingers on adjacent strings on the same fret position (like an Em) don't work unless I can "mini-barre" them with one finger. But with a little practice, I can get most other chords to work passably well.Very cool! Who needs a slide?

Really nice bass fills on that first one in the break just before "piano practice". Great playing!
Thanks. I was actually not meant to do that, but the scenario for this was that the two other guys live in Georgia and New York so they just flew in to quickly record their bits. There were electric guitar leads there, but dude just didn't like them at the mixing stage. (I tell him he should do more than 1 take but he is old school).
Playing with the same effects I stumbled on my favorite riff. Feels like I'm treading on holy ground with clumsy muddy workbooks, but gives me hope that I might someday be able to do a cover.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a link to an early version of this song I had written and started to record. Here's the final version, completed this last weekend. Nothing terribly exciting on the bass end of things, but it was lots of fun to put together.

Hoss had met up with this chick who was traveling around with her snake oil salesman father. He talked hoss into trying out this set of wings he had built for when the devel winds pick up.

Hello, Let me explain this example I'm puttin' forth;
I ran across this AUDIO version of space niner recently and have been enjoying it's idiosyncrasies.
I put this video together today. Be the first on your block to see it!
This was a live 2 track recording from 4-19-10. I'm far from pro, we do it to have fun. I must have 75-100 audio versions of this song recorded in "the brownroom" during rehearsals or jam's. They are ALL faster than this version. That's the thing about our gig. It was always available for us to be varying from the norm.
So yeah, it is not perfect and I always have a red face when I spaz out. I see on my youtube channel there are 3 other versions of this. They are all from live gigs. (they suffer from amateur recording technics, but sound pretty true to form the way you'd normally hear it) ) I do not have a single "video" of space niner performed in the brownroom. Just tons of audio. This song would get played in there sometimes a couple times in a week.
There are a few on there... Space niner is a song I made up. Through out the years, the different band mates used their own judgments to interpret it their way. Thus, you would find extreme ends of the spectrum if you had all the versions at your disposal. During one era... one of the vocalists wrote words.
Looks to be just one version of it on my sound cloud. An early album version. And it's a pretty old one, but here goes...

For some time, I was hoping to have written words for this but nothing would come to me. I finally accepted the fact it was meant to be an instrumental. Now I have to come up with a memorable melody line and a name for it. Here it is, name suggestions welcome if you dare.

Ok! Here's my latest. Raft song. I play everything except for drums, where I scroll through menus. The "amateur" really comes through in the bass solo.
Another original. Bass is Mustang played with a pick and a foam mute, with additional palm muting on the verses. The "orchestrations" are a Charvel Surfcaster through a ZVex Fuzzolo Fuzz.
