I saw that one, too. The uncommon gold finish caught my eye, and it seems to be in nice condition. The seller comes off like a BS artist. He has his "shipping saga" in the listing description about his "Florida" experience. Apparently, he likes to bring his items to a UPS "store" and have them do everything. That gets real pricey, real fast.
It's been a while, and maybe things have changed since, but I've bought basses off ebay in the past where the seller specifically stated that "buyer pays actual shipping costs", regardless of the $$ figure that appeared on the listing. In every case, when it's time to Pay Now, the total price has been determined by what was shown in the listing, and that's all I'm paying. There was no "renegotiating" the shipping fee after the sale. Once I've paid, the seller had no choice but to send it to me for the ebay invoice amount like he's supposed to do, or try to cancel the sale altogether.
With that gold Fury the seller used the ebay shipping calculator (always risky IMO). For my location the calculator is showing $40. Dunno how much it's showing for your location, but there is no way this seller is going to only pay a UPS Store $40 for shipping, not to anywhere.
He may ask you for (or even demand) more money afterwards. Do what you feel is right, but I wouldn't pay any more than what was shown on the invoice. As you say, $500 is at the upper end of value, so a big additional shipping fee would surely put you upside down, price-wise.
Curious to see the outcome. Good luck.
View attachment 4336328 Just minutes ago I bought a pearl white G Bass on Reverb. A bass I’ve wanted for YEARS and in the color I wanted! Super, super stoked for this to show up. I paid a little more than I wanted but it’s the color that’s harder to come by and it comes with the factory hard case.
That bass looks freaking AWESOME! Love the color. Man that seller sounds kind of “interesting”LOL.Well I did it! The only bidder. The seller PM'd me just hours before the sale was over complaining about the cost of shipping a T40 to florida and not being able to change the shipping price in the listing. I responded saying I'm only a few hours away so hopefully it wouldn't cost as much. His response was kind of gibberish followed by an encrypted phone number, I didn't call, I don't know this guy! If you read his ads he states non-truths a lot, as in his "basses are all over 50 years old" and the T20 is "from the 70s". I guess I'll have to wait and see what he does about shipping. If he loses a bit of money I don't care at 500 this bass is at the top end of it's value. I'm with you I would rather have a cool Peavey than another cheep 7ender...

Looks like it’s near its limit but otherwise normal. I’m more concerned about the condition of the string nut. Sloppy glue job. Maybe glue got into/onto the truss rod.I just picked up this Palaedium and wondered if anyone has seen a Peavey truss rod that looked like this? None of the 3 other Palaediums I have look like this. They all just have the nut.
It’s *extremely* tight and hard to turn in either direction, so I’ll have to gently see if I’m able to get it to turn. But if this looks like some kind of repair to a messed up truss rod, I’ll be sending it back.
Just checked my Fury and that truss rod looks nothing like this either.

I’m actually surprised it arrived with the neck not snapped off after this horrendous packing job. $20 gig bag with a couple pieces of paper on one side - not even surrounding the bass…

Awesome! Congrats and she looks like a beauty! Looking forward to hearing a report on it once you're in possession of it.Well I did it! The only bidder. What's difficult about it? You'll pay exact cost plus insurance. He's not amazon where he can get bulk rates and sending it flat rate to somewhere remote can destroy his profit. I usually state the same, buy put the numbers into my shipping company's calculator for a couple of locations and post those to give some idea.Seems like this is another seller that is making the shipping and insurance more difficult than it needs to be.

He's wrong about length being the cost determinate, it's usually cubic volume.
