I have used the 170BT + 130xl on my main millennium 5er since the came out. They work top load but you must use SL to go through body. I often use the SL for the low B. On my back up Milly I'm still experimenting with different string sets/brands.

I'm getting for my next bass! What are the pros and cons of a TL-5 and a Cirrus 5?
IMO...there are no cons to a Cirrus

They have some similarities but are different animals.
The obvious ones are that the Cirrus is 35" scale and the TL5 is 34". That difference shows up as typically a better sounding B string on the Cirrus. I also like the increased string tension of 35".
The Gen 2 TL5 has the early version of the VFL pu's as used in the Cirrus but the preamps are not the same. The TL5 incorporated the mid sweep control where the production Cirrus does not. That said, the Cirrus is usually better sounding IMO. I have owned several Gen 2 TL5's and out of the 5 or so that passed through my collection I regret selling only one of them. That particular one had some finish damage to the headstock but it was the best playing and sounding TL5 I have ever had in my hands.
The Cirrus was produced with several wood options where the TL5 was only produced with Maple necks and bodies. I have come to prefer the Walnut bodied Cirrus with either Bubinga or Wenge tops. They have a wonderful tone with some kind of magic in it for me. There is this growl in the lower mids that sounds fantastic and cuts through the mix.
Both the TL5 and the Cirrus 5 are wonderful instruments and I believe you would be happy with either one. Prices are going up but nice ones can still be had.
Overall? Feel and look.
With attention to setup, strings and settings, they both can sound almost identical.

Both are solid, neck through, basses with standard hardware. I like the Cirrus bridge a bit better because you can change the string spacing a bit, but it is also more tricky to intonate/setup.
I like the preamp on the TL-5 a lot more because of the sweet mid-sweep option. This can change your tone considerably and is a very powerful tool.
I like the Neck on the Cirrus more because it is flatter, slimmer, and satin coated. The TL-5 neck is not bad at all, but a bit rounder and chunkier, which some people prefer. It has a glossy coat, which can get sticky in some situations.
The cirrus has a darker, more low mid heavy, tone, which I really love. The TL-5 is not far off, but it is brighter, with a nice character in the upper mids that gives it a little snarl.
I personally feel that the Cirrus has a more "boutique" feel, where as the TL-5 is more of a "powerhouse".
If you're interested in a TL-5, I'm selling mine in the Classifieds. So yes, I obviously prefer the Cirrus. But they are close, and I have real doubts about selling it sometimes. Perhaps I shouldn't have bought a new amp... or bike...

Finally found upgrade tuners for my accelerator 2t. A lot of the normal sealed back style are too shallow for the thick peavey headstock, but these from Allparts are excellent. They’re OEM on a lot of schecter basses right now, and are essentially hipshot clones. Certainly not quite as nice as those, but for the money they feel very very nice. The originals just felt a little loose for me, and I like the clover key look way better too.
Pickguard Planet do 4 and 5 string plates. Start at $41 + shipping for plain 1 or 3 ply. Rising to $44 for specialty like mint or parchment / $68 pearloid/tiger stripes/fancy and finally $77 for tort.

If you need a 4 string plate; I've a friend in Glasgow does them. For basic plates you'd be cheaper with P-Planet but for the fancy stuff Brian is your man . I wouldn't be concerned, because they haven't been made in a long time (for a replacement). Just make sure to never let them out of your sight! I had a GV stolen at a NYE show years ago, and sadly, no serial sticker.
I bought some of these to put into secret pockets in the gig bag. You can also put identifiers under the pickguard, neck pocket, etc.

Hey, all...got me a GV coming my way. It looks to be in great shape, and has a Pope 4-band preamp (ad said 3, seller confirmed for me that it's 4). That spoke wheel should be a very welcomed addition for gigging, too. I still have a factory case from a similar GV, of which got stolen at a NYE gig back in '10, right off of the stage. So, hopefully my sentiments will be in harmony again....
