Well this time I really did it. T-40 pickups are epoxied right? So they cannot be fixed right? Does anyone have one to sell or know where I can get one?
The guy's right..."impossible to find color". If that was local to me I'd hit it, even though I don't care for the Dyna pre's at all. The cool factor is strong in this one! Magic 8 Ball says..."buy it, for you will never see another like it".

Is there a pickup on the market that will do the same thing a T-40 pickup will do?

The trick is to find a matching ceramic humbucker with the same low wire count.
Personally , I'd replace both pickups and ditch the clunky "spin-a-split" circuit with push/pull Vol pots doing the tap. The sale of your working pickup will help cover the cost of replacements
There was a time that Darkstars and Bisonics were being dropped into T40 holes. The catch is that these pickups have become even more expensive than the original T40 pickups.Any 4 wire humbucker.

I also 2nd the suggestion to ditch any spin-a-split wiring. The push/pull pots or repurposing the phase switch as master split allows for more and better tones, in my experience.
Deal Alert! There's a T-40 in Raleigh for $450. If I wanted one, I'd drive down from Richmond, but I don't.

My opinon is that this would really depend on touch, strings, setup, amp, style etc.
When I had one, I turned off the lights and did it in the dark..
I think that's fair for what it is. Lot of honest wear on that bass. Maybe more than I'd want. But you have me thinking.

You could have it taken apart then rebuilt but I doubt it would sound the same , quite important when you need a pair. Wire gauge/wind pattern/space left all play a part in how a pickup sounds.
Thing is the pickup isn't working so you've nothing to lose by sending it to someone.
You certainly don't need Darkstar or BiSonic unless trying to capture a similar visual. Seymour Duncan SMB-4D is a 4 wire ceramic so switching from single coil to humbucker is easy , being reasonably close in DCR to the T-40 is another thing in it's favour.
Looked again and you may be right. Almost looks like orange peel along the belly cut. But could also be belt buckle dimpling. And a seam raised on the back possibly too.
First time this has happened to me. I just realized one end of a fret is lifting slightly on my 1994 Fury. I found a buzz and diagnosed it from there. It's raised about a fingernail's thickness and only affects the G string. I'm not a luthier but I see two options. Tap it back down and hope it doesn't raise again or leave as is and file the fret. I only use this as a practice bass so I guess I could just leave it alone and deal with it too. Thoughts.
