This is certainly do-able, but I feel spending $0.50 on a new 9V battery clip to make a jumper is the 'safer' option. People who arent handy can do some crazy stuff...
It's interesting how some batteries in some instruments can sit idle for a long time, and others die quickly. Good quality alkalines seem to lose voltage rather slowly when not being put to use. Rechargeable batteries have a pretty quick discharge under the same circumstance.
I once kept a 9V in my US Dlx Jazz V for 6 years (2004-2010), played it probably 20 hours a year. It finally started to sound weak and dirty, and upon removal I saw the install date (I sharpie the install date on the battery).
Same goes for EMGs. It's easy to get 3 years out of them.
My Dyna and Dyna 5 can get maybe a year before the voltage drops below 8V with the same amount of use.
Now I keep record of battery changes on a slip of paper. I used to change them yearly, but find most can go every other year.

I have a 5 string with the same style PU's as your bass. I really love the tone of my bass.
We often forget to consider the amplification we are using when considering the tone of a bass. My practice room has an Aguilar rig consisting of an AG 500DC head and a GS212 cabinet. It is a very good sounding rig and all my basses sound great through it.
Another avenue you might consider is adding an outboard preamp of some sort. I have a Tech 21 Acoustic DI that I sometimes use with a passive bass or upright. It has very nice tone shaping capabilities but is no longer made as Tech 21 replaced it with the Para Driver which has even more EQ power. If you get one it may very well give you what you are looking for.
If at some point you decide to sell your Foundation, you will sell it much quicker and for more $$ if it is original. I know many of us here will not buy an altered Peavey bass.
The strings went off to one side of the fingerboard as they traveled from the nut to the bridge. I had to finally loosen the neck and yank it to one side a bit and re-tighten it. Then I swapped the bridge with the Hipshot and laterally adjusted the strings until they were close enough to properly centered along the fingerboard. The mod stays.
I was disappointed to discover that it was off enough to be not only visually annoying, but the E string was very close to the edge of the board.
Thanks for the EQ notes, I have since found that a little EQ treatment through the Eden WT405 head here changes things considerably. I'm in no sweat over anything with it, I got it in a trade.
I don't think the product from this era is quite on par with the older stuff, based on this one though... Never had a build issue with a Peavey before.

I wonder if you could pop some Super ferrite's right in there. They do show up on the used market occasionally.
I think the rout is different, don't know if the p'up surrounds for the Ferrites will cover them. I'm also not looking to spend money at this point... I have some old Bach Humbuckers, lol. I'm not being a purist at this point- I've had to jack the neck to one side and swap the bridge for something I could finish the re-alignment with. I'll keep working with EQ, this old booger will find itself.
This bass is in the area here in Canada but after taxes it would be a +$400 bass. Seems steep for budget bass.
Haven't bought a bass in years and recently noticed affinity squier is $400 here as well.... Ugh
I wouldn't worry about the purist no-mod thing, there are thousands of 90's foundations out there to be had. Do what you want to yours...and be sure to post pics and reviews along the way...Lol!

I was in my 20's in the 2000's. It pretty much sucked with all the craziness going on in the world and then the recession. It's been sucking again pretty hard for the past 2 years, but hopefully were coming out of it.

Thought I would share a picture of my Peavey Forum. I bought it new sometime in the mid to late 90's and it's pretty much been my main bass since.
Something on the Bartolini or Delano size charts is likely a fair fit. From just looking Id the new fishman would hair small for the route but could work.
Id still be interested if you sold it. Buy used, pickups wont add the full bought for price to the guitar new.
